From NY Daily news:

It's 'Geraldo' vs. 'Oprah'

New show to air in killer slot

Geraldo Rivera isn't doing his old daytime show.

Geraldo Rivera might be in the ratings fight of his life.
That's because Rivera's new daily news show, "Geraldo at Large," launches Oct. 31 and will air on WNYW/Ch. 5 in one of the toughest local times imaginable - 4 p.m., putting him against WABC/Ch. 7's telecast of Oprah Winfrey's show.

"Oprah's great, the best in the business," Rivera said yesterday.

"A lot of what Oprah does is not so distant from what we do," Rivera added, citing her recent shows on Hurricane Katrina and sexual predators.

Rivera's show will be similar to his Sunday program on the Fox News Channel. Former Ch. 5 anchor and FNC staffer Julie Banderas is expected to add some sizzle and sex appeal to Rivera's show, too.

Still, there's no way to sugarcoat the facts. "Oprah" is a ratings monster.

"Geraldo at Large" will be paired with "Inside Edition" from 4-5 p.m. on Ch. 5. Although the schedule is tough for Rivera, pairing the two gives Ch. 5's ratings-anemic early newscasts a more compatible lead-in.

Rivera wants to be clear: The daytime slot is not a throwback to his previous talk-show career.

"Daytime is one thing, news is another," Rivera said. "I turned down [syndicator 20th Television] a year ago when they came after me to do my old daytime show. I didn't want my career to go back in that direction.

"I've proven I'm one of the warrior journalists," he said. "It's not a step backward. It's a syndicated program produced by a major news division."
