Since the beginning of the summer I have been seriously considering leaving SO. I even did leave once or twice, but was talked back into returning by some friends. However, I have decided that it is time for me to leave. I have had some very bad experiences at SO over the past few months, and they have grown worse over the past week. I just feel the only way to put that hurt behind me is to move on.

I would like to thank all the people who have been nice to me in my almost thrree years here. I would like to offer special thanks to Jenny (Jen1978), Kate (Susan Norton), Cathy (dawsongirl), Sonny (DallasCowboysFanatic), Justin (Otter), Tara (Living In a '70's Dream), jernygrl, Cindy (musicrocksmyworld), John (BuffySlayer79) and Michael (HuntingtonM15).
Also to Janice and TJ. I know this isn't everyone, so thank you to everyone I didn't name. I'll miss you all.:)

I have no idea what has happened/is happening, but I hate to see when people create threads of leaving a forum *because* of happenings on the forum. It's quite sad. I would say "the heck with those people" who were/are giving you a hard time for whatever reason. They do not control your life. I would just suggest to just ignore them. I mean, you have friends and fellow SOers who care about you. It's obvious with those who say "stay." :)

But... it's ultimately your decision, Jimmy Malone. You are the only person who knows what's best for you. Good luck in your decision.

roby, my problems are quite a bit more serious then some "insignificant thing on an internet messageboard". I was really hurt by a fellow member of SO, one who I thought was my good friend. Coming here reminds me of this person and it is painful to be reminded.

You do make an an excellent point about leaving my "friends". Until I posted this thread I didn't even realize I even had that many friends on SO. I've always considered myself something of a loner around here. I never thought that anyone would even care if I left SO or not. Infact, I thought a few people would even be happy that I was leaving. After reading through all these posts, I guess I was wrong.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words. After reading this, I think I need to give more thought to if I really want to leave or not.

i'm sorry if it sounded like I was making light of a situation that is obviously very serious to you, but my point is the same; something can only hurt you if you LET it hurt you.

I'm sure that everyone has been betrayed by a friend or someone close to them at some time or other but it doesnt have to be something that stays with YOU - THEY screwed up, THEY are the one that has lost your trust and friendship, and if that is the type of person they are, then YOU haven't lost anything at all. Stop undervaluing yourself and letting self-doubt cause you pain that you don't deserve. You are a good person with plenty of friends, you just need to convince yourself of it.

This is what I was trying to say in my post above. We have something that we call as "choices." We choose how we feel. Unfortunately, sometimes it's easier to "let" others make us feel a certain way by something they have said/done. It's a difficult process getting away from the notion of allowing others to control how we feel. Been there, done that myself. It takes a lot of willpower to just try and not let them get to us, especially when it comes to people we care about.

We've never spoken, Jimmy, but I agree with others who've said that it might be good if you'd reconsider. As you said yourself, you've realised just how many friends you have here and how many people like you. I understand that you're obviously very upset over whatever has happened, but maybe if you become encased in a friendly atmosphere here, then you can forget about all the bad stuff.

If you really want to leave, of course, it's entirely up to you - but would it really be the best thing? Maybe you want to leave now because the bad incidents are still fresh, but maybe later on you'll have forgotten them, or at least decided they don't matter any more.

I'm not even sure why I keep coming here, considering eventually all the nice people will be gone because there are these stupid *******s who can't keep their goddamn opinions to themselves or accept people and their opinions for what they are. **** them all. pissed:

Hi Solomon :)

I honestly don't mean to be rude or offensive, but I think your post may have been a little hard on Jimmy Malone, or Mike. I can understand why you get sick of threads like this, but I don't think he was posting it to get attention. I think he just announced he was leaving so that the friends he knew he had made here would know, and therefore not wonder where he was if/when he didn't show up. It's possible that he may have subconsciously wanted advice on whether to stay or not, since he seems to be giving it more thought. To me, Jimmy Malone seems like a nice guy, and while I understand what you're saying, Solomon, I think your post could be interpreted to come across as a little abrasive. Believe me, I'm not trying to offend you or be rude, it's just the way some people may interpret it. Jimmy Malone came across as quite upset over what has happened previously in his posts in this thread; I don't think he made this thread just for attention.

Anyway, if you're still reading this thread, Mike, will you give it some more thought and maybe reconsider? In time, what happened in the past may very well be just a faint memory.

Theirs always been a fair amount of drama on SO.

heh, remember when everyone threw a tantrum and claimed they were going to leave the boards just because images were disabled in signatures?

(if this were "family guy", a flashback of everyone whining and yelling at TJ over the "deaths of their siggys" would appear, and there would be no exaggerations or extra satire thrown into the scene because it's hilarious enough as it is)

or the time a certain elizabeth montgomery fan left and said she was about to shoot herself and told another member that she wanted her dead all just because this 'villain' made an LJ and sort of role-played her?

(flashback of the two members speaking in their posts made towards each other during holly's last few days here, only this time there is a bit of exaggeration to the extent that would not have been surprising; in the background, the song "last resort" by papa roach is playing on holly's cd player and she is shown crying, mascara running down her face, and cutting her wrists with a chain saw, and next to her is a suicide note she had just written that reads: "to everyone on sitcomsonline.com chit chat message board - as i slide the chainsaw down my wrists, i become farther away from all of you stupid people and closer to liz, whom i've never had any interaction with whatsoever but love with all of my tortured heart more than anyone i actually know. i hate you." all while kristina is playing with a yo-yo and trying not to laugh)

I can see RetroTVCollectors point though. If you're going to leave - then leave. Why annoce it to everyone. If you are having problems with a few people, announcing it just gives them another shot at aggrivating(?) you and makes them fell like they won because you are leaving. Just tell the friends that you've made on here that you're leaving in a PM or e-mail. Threads like these really do look like that person is fishing for complements. I don't know Jimmy Malone and he may be a great person but most of the time when you see a thread saying "I'm leaving" that person usually comes right back.

I can see Solomon's point too. I can see why it would get annoying. But I think that because other people have made quite a lot of threads like these in the past, then others may tend to think that it's the normal thing to do when you're going to leave and that it's generally accepted by everyone who comes here. Rather like when you see someone doing something at school, and you're not aware that other people disapprove of it, and you follow suit because you think it's what everybody does. I know it can seem like you're looking for attention by making threads like these, but I don't think Jimmy Malone was, because he seemed genuinely upset about the incidents he referred to in his posts, and I think he just wanted to get it off his chest.

A bit of an insecurity comment, but....

Do ALL my above posts sound insulting or not as complimenting or something? I just wonder because I am trying to be helpful but have gotten no response from a certain individual. I don't mean to sound ungracious. I am just trying to sound realistic and helpful. Sorry if it sounded insulting. Didn't mean it.

No, your posts are not insulting at all. :) And you have been very helpful. In this whole ordeal I have been going through there have only really been two people who have been insulting and I think they know who they are. But they are two people I don't like to begin with, so who cares what they think.

I've really missed all my freinds here, and after reading all the kind words that many of them posted, I decided that I could not leave. I know there are some people out there who are going to think I am an attention whore who was just trying to attract attention with this post. And if you wish to believe this, more power to you. The people who know me and are my friends know the truth. And for people who are not my friends, frankly, it really doesn't matter what you think of me anyway.

Jenny, Justin, Sonny, Tara, Cathy, Michael, Cindy, Jeremy, Jack, Janice, Penny Lane and everyone else who posted kind words about me, I just want you guys and girls to know that I think you all rock!:D

:woohoo:

Now I can go to Kansas tomorrow happy. Well, happy until I actually get there.
