I missed most of the Marathon yesterday/last night. I must have forgotten about it, but I also wasn't feeling well and ended up taking a little nap...

Anyone mind explaining the "Her Honor" Episodes?

I saw all of them except PT. 4(which I taped, but haven't got around to watching). Anyway, the list of new judges comes out and Dan is CERTAIN he will be on it. Turns out it is Christine, NOT Dan, who will be appointed a new judge. Dan takes the news hard and goes through a fashion change, coming in dressed like a wacky teenager with a walkman and then storming out of the courtroom. Later, as the gang reviews the list of judges, it turns out Harry will NOT be reinstated as a judge. Christine will be taking his place on the bench. Everyone feels awful, and as they are saying their goodbyes, Harry admits that now he is no longer a judge he'd be interested in exploring a relationship with Christine. She, however, wants to try and contact the review board to get him reinstated. Harry thinks its a waste of time and vows to do something "CRAZY" now that he has nothing to lose. He leaves and seems to disappear into thin air.
After Christine is sworn in as a judge, she manages to have a talk with the mayor, who reviews Harry's file and agrees that the review board made a terrible error. Harry will be reinstated as judge. But where is he? Turns out he is planning the most elaborate practical joke ever perpetrated on New York City, one that will "Freak Out Manhattan". They all have to find him before he goes through with it and tell him he's been reinstated as a judge. Otrherwise, his "Gag" may get him thrown off the bench permanently.
That's as far as I got before I fell asleep. Hope this part helps at least. Maybe someone else can finish up where this left off. See ya!;)

I can pick it up from here for you. The mayor calls Harry's office as the staff is trying to cover for him until he can be found. Mac hands the phone over to Dan to impersonate Harry over the phone because it's sneaky, underhanded and as Dan finished, "Nobody, does it better." Anyway, as Dan is impersonating Harry over the phone in walks a member of the judicial selctions committee who needs Harry to sign some papers. Mac tries to cover at first saying Harry is out but when the man overhears Dan identify himself over the phone as being Harry, Dan has to continue with the charade. However, there's a problem. Harry has to sign some papers and the man from the judicial comittee has to witness it. Mac can forge Harry's signature but they need a distraction for a minute. Christine has to help them out. She starts a conversation with the man. Next thing we see is Dan sitting at Harry's desk wearing Harry's robe and Mac behind the chair underneath the robe. To cover Mac's hand Dan whispers for Mac to put a white glove, which was on the desk, on his hand to cover it. (Guess why?) Mac signs the papers and all seems okay until Mr. Fenton (the man from the judicial selections comittee) tells them someone will be by to swear Harry in right after the shift.
They had a close call but now they really have to find Harry. They discover, after the judge who was supposed to swear Harry in gets sick, that the judge who is now going to swear Harry in is someone Harry knows. As the staff scrambles to find out what to do, we come to Harry dressed in a ridiculous metallic silver tight fitting outfit with a hand glider strapped to his back on the ledge of the Brooklyn bridge. Here Harry meets a suicidal inventor who convinces him to go back and fight for his job. As a now determined Harry gets ready to leave the bridge and fight for job, the inventor takes Harry's hand glider realizing that he (the inventor) just needs publicity to market his inventions. Next, we come back to a staff who is ready to confess their charade to Mr. Fenton and the jusde who knows Harry, when Dan knocks Mr. Fenton out accidentally with Harry's gavel. A scene later, Fenton is laying on the couch out cold in walks Harry in his stupid outfit. Harry starts this whole blabbering about being determined to get his job back when Mac relays the message that he has it back. In one fell swoop, Mac grabs Harry's right hand and holds it up, Christine plops Harry's hand on the bible. The judge asks Harry if he's "planning on killing anyone", confused Harry answers "no". The judge says, "Good you're a judge again, goodnight." and walks out. We then come to a scene where a cleaned up Harry, mac and Bull enter chambers bosting about Harry's recent prank on an unsuspecting Dan...an exploding gavel that took off Dan's eyebrows. Harry is left to talk with Christine. He's pretty excited now because they are both judges and there would be no problem with them starting a romance. However, Christine confesses to Harry that she has quit her job because she was uncomfortable being a judge. At first, Harry is disgusted that she gave up but then realizes that she was just being "true to herself". As for Harry's plans to have them ride on a magic marker built for two...she conveys that he'd better, "put a cap on it, sir." The good news is that she starts back in his court the next day. He thanks her for saving his job. After she leaves, Harry grabs a plastic blue bear with detachable body parts from his book shelf, lays down on his couch and begins to pull the arms out saying, "She loves me. She loves me not." As for Harry's secret prank, he opens his apartment door, turns the light on and we see Harry patting something flesh colored saying, "Someday, baby. Someday." The next frame shows a HUGE pair of Groucho Marx glasses that Harry had planned to put on the Statue of Liberty. Then, the show ends.

The same sort of thing was planned for the finale in 1991 before they got picked up for that extra season. I have a Markie interview on Arsenio where she said the "Night Court movie" had been written with a be all-end all finish, which we've beaten to death on this board.

But "Her Honor" was a great drama as well as hilarious, with both Christine and Harry being given whirlwind storylines. In the shows hayday the writers were SO good at that, giving each character a real dramatic arc. They also did that with Dan's army ep where he's lost at sea and ends up in the Eskimo village for a three part episode.

One of their best multiple part/arcking episodes they ever did. It was basically a Night Court movie, four episodes totalling an hour and a half. The same sort of thing was planned for the finale in 1991 before they got picked up for that extra season. I have a Markie interview on Arsenio where she said the "Night Court movie" had been written with a be all-end all finish, which we've beaten to death on this board.

But "Her Honor" was a great drama as well as hilarious, with both Christine and Harry being given whirlwind storylines. In the shows hayday the writers were SO good at that, giving each character a real dramatic arc. This was so true. I thought this episode opened many doors. Unfortunately, these doors were never closed properly. I would have liked to have known what that "movie" would have been like. I still think NBC and Warner Brothers owes "Night Court" something big. There were many other great multi-part episodes. For instance, Harry trying to help the government catch a mobster, "Fools Rush In", and the one you mentioned with Dan being trapped in Alaska. They always showed a vulnerable side of the characters.

Absolutely right. Harry's two-parter learning about Buddy being his dad, Dan in Alaska, Christine appointed a judge, Mac had that one-parter where he becomes a sullen drunk because Quon-Le is pregnant. Now that I think of it Roz had a two-parter where she's in insulin shock and running around the courthouse near death.
