I could say it is because of how much the shows air but Soap hasn't aired on TV much with the exception of being on TV land and it has its 4th season release. It might also depend on the price. There might be some other reasons but it can vary on a case by case basis. robby76 10-11-2005, 12:23 AM I never understand the concept of... "If it's aired regularly as re-runs, it has better chances of being released / selling". I agree on the exposure to a new market, but surely if it's always on tv, there's not much need to buy a dvd, unless you're a die-hard fan. Pricing and availability is also a key factor. Some sets that run into the $30 - $40 mark definitely need a long hard think before buying, especially for us who don't live in the US and have to pay $10 - $20 extra on postage! I know I wanted to get Who's The Boss and Cosby Show (liked the shows but wouldn't say I'm a big fan) but cos of the high price from Amazon I thought I'd rather wait to buy something i REALLY want! Nostalgia is also a big selling factor and it may just be that people have more fonder memories of Good Times etc than Mork and Mindy. Remember the main market that really make sales figures soar are the casual buyer - not the tv show fanatics like us. sara 10-11-2005, 12:45 AM I don't know for sure, but with Barney Miller most fans agree that the series was at it's best after the 3rd season. When they replaced Chano and Fish with Dietrich and Levitt. So maybe the 1st season didn't sell that well because some fans only wanted the later ones. I bought the 1st season and am praying that the rest come out eventually.:( robby76 10-11-2005, 01:03 AM I was just gonna add that point... some people are very selective on what seasons they buy. Many first seasons (not all) are still trying to find ground which is why people skip the first season and wait for ages for the following. I didn't start collecting Good Times and Three's Company until the 2nd seasons. |
