Just wondering if anyone spotted the clip of Cloris (as Phyllis) and Mary in Season 2's opening credits. It looks as if Mary is laughing out loud about a goof that they made in their lines and Cloris is then saying something out loud to the audience to acknowledge the goof. I don't think it's meant to be Mary & Phyllis as much as Mary & Cloris since they seemed to be out of character (Mary tolerated Phyllis more than found her funny). Anyone else think the same thing when they spot this?

Just curious. Sorry if this seems like a stupid thing to comment on...

I always thought the same thing. They're both looking out toward the cameras and the audience.

If they ever get around to putting more seasons of MTM on DVD, I hope they include bloopers.

.....it WAS an "outtake". So the one who put the montage of scenes together for the second season opening title decided, hey, this is a funny, relaxed moment, throw it in!

I don't know if anyone remembers(or cares) this, but when the show ran on Nick At Nite, the second season opening sometimes had an alternate picture of just Mary laughing by herself, instead of the one that featured her and Cloris. For some reason, on the DVD(and all the video releases), they decided to just feature the one version.

I've often wondered if when the show originally aired, the episodes that featured Cloris were the ones that used the picture of her and Mary in the opening and all the other episodes used the one of just Mary, but somehow, this got mixed up in syndication and then eventually lost completely when the show was released on video.

I noticed that right away too when watching them on DVD, and found that to be very ahead of its time and "fresh" and "new". Shows just didn't do that, and even from the '80s to today not many sitcoms put any outtakes in the opening credits.

It's a great moment, lol.

I like that clip, too. They do look very relaxed and like they are having fun. :cool:

I've always kind of wondered if that was an outtake and assumed it was but it's glad to know for sure now. :)
