I heard the DVD release for this series is going to be incorrectly framed for widescreen sets meaning you actually LOSE the picture instead of gaining I think. They did NOT make letterboxed shows in 1990, and I wish they would stop tampering with the frame formats of television show releases.

Anyway, I am interested in seeing this. I especially want to see 60's scream queen Barbara Steele play Julia. I heard the showwas actually pretty good and was rudely yanked off the air after very few episodes.

Did anybody really like this show? In a way I'm glad the 2004 version was not picked up.

I was going to get this set until I learned that the episodes were going to be cropped just so it could be in widescreen. Those same episodes that are being released on the DVD, you can download them from emule. I already have them downloaded and watched a few episodes. I think the show could have used better acting. The first episode when Elizabeth comes in and meets Barnabas for the first time, she is dull. She expressed no emotion like Joan did in the 60's DS. I hate remakes, and I think this was really one of the worst made.

I think her name is Jean Simmons. I didn't care for her acting at all.

I think I have a movie with Jean Simmons in it, that is if is the same Jean Simmons. It is a horror movie from the 70's called "Squirm."

Here's a cast list for the 91 version. (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0101075/)

I loved the revival series. I remember seeing commercials for it back in '91, prior to its premiere, and my mother telling me all about running home from school to watch the daytime version back in the '60s. I watched the pilot movie and was instantly hooked. I never missed an episode... I even cut out any newspaper or TV Guide article or review I could find, and, years later, I purchased all of the VHS tapes that MPI released for the revival series. (I also have the comics published by Innovation!)

Sadly though, I refuse to purchase the DVD set because of the unforgivable cropping job.

IMO, any DS fan who doesn't buy the '91 version is missing out. It's really well done.
