Here's something I made from my experience of watching old films.

In 1965, this is what The Munsters looked like.
In 1975, the original film still looked pretty good.
In 1985, you can see signs of age.
In 1995, the film really get's grainy, and too much contrast has developed on the film.
By 2005, the film is terribly deteriorated, and also brittle.
By 2015, the film is so grainy, and so high in contrast, even modern remastering techniques may not restore the picture to its original beauty.

I hate to be contrary, but do you know anything about modern film restoration techniques at all? None of this has any bearing on fact whatsoever.

I was just showing what the original film prints would look like throughout the years.
As for actual film restoration, I believe the film is saved on a mega-computer, then touched up digitally. It's not very hard to do, and doesn't cost as much as you might think to do it.
