From TVGuide.com's Ask Ausielo:
Question: Hi, I would like a real, concrete, confirmed answer: Will we see the alternate ending to the American Dreams finale or not?! — Matthew Danner
Ausiello: Sadly, not — at least not on NBC. I'm still waiting for Jeff Zucker to tell me what exactly went wrong, but I hear it had something to do with difficulty securing sponsors or some nonsense like that.

I am not some psycho-obsessed AD fan whose life has spiralled downhill since it's cancellation, but I am very upset that a quality, family-oriented program that really wasn't doing that poorly was cancelled. That said, I perused the NBC website to see what was now occupying the 8pm time slot on wednesday nights (the slot vacated by the West Wing, which now appears in AD's old time slot). I was absolutely sickened to see that Apprentice-Martha Stewart edition, seems to be the show that has replaced AD. This is a perfect commentary on the society in which we all live. The public would rather contribute to the absurd wealth of a criminal who played a role in the loss of many an investor's fortunes than to see the Pryor family cope with socially relevant issues. What a joke! The Gottie crime family gets a prime time show, Howard Stern is everywhere, Tommy Lee is going back to school, chemically enhanced athletes permeat the airwaves, and now jailbird Martha gets a show. Do the networks understand what kind of message is being sent to our society, our children more frighteningly? It pays to be immoral, disrespectful, and to disobeye the laws of our society! Congratulations NBC for tagging along like the cowardly followers you are. Whatever sells, right? Jeff Zucker must be sleeping pretty well at night knowing that the world is a little better off without quality family programming. Damn those straight-arrow, hard working Pryors. We showed them, eh Jeff?
I think perhaps the more frightening aspect of this is that the networks know that these shallow, crime-glorifying shows will actually be watched. So, shame on the TV watching population of America. What is so damn wrong with shows that provoke thought, and encourage family togetherness and discussion? American Dreams would have survived if not for the growing obsession this society has with immoral, destructive behavior.

I read that somewhere between 7 and 8 million people watched the premier of M. S. Apprentice. If I'm not mistaken, NBC pulled the plug on American Dreams when the audience was still somewhere in excess of 7 million. So if they can't do any better with M.S., they ought to admit their mistake and bring back A.D. Fat chance of that happening, though. They'll drag on with the current line-up, and then replace it with some other idiotic show.

Well, y'all, I heard earlier that NBC had lousy ratings with Martha (YAY!!!!) and so moved it to the old AD slot, opposite Lost. The guy who reported this said that's basically like putting a show down the garbage disposal, putting it against Lost, which is of course what the *bleeps* did to our beloved American Dreams. At least they had stinky ratings with Martha, let's hope that trend continues.
