View Full Version : I'm confused...Why did Michael say...
Ireneparalegal 09-22-2005, 10:16 PM he couldn't go to college? In the episode where Keith returns from the hospital and the family is feeling overwhelmed with everything, Michael states to Keith that Keith is not the only one who is having it bad, Michael then says he can't go to college because he has to help out the family. This doesn't make sense to me. Michael was preparing to go away to college. Ok. What has changed that he can no longer go? Just because Keith can't play football shouldn't have no bearing on his decision. Michael planned to leave before Keith was introduced to the family. The family made ends meet without Michael ever having to stay at home and working.

It is this type of writing on Good Times that makes me mad. There are so many contradictions and twists to what has happened. Like Florida's story about her and James fighting before they got married, why didn't she just tell the story about James thinking the minister was another man and almost beat him up. That was a good story too.
Oh did anyone notice that Joe Bonaduce wrote the wedding episode.

I think Michael wanted to help with the finances and get a part time job, so he couldn't go away to college, but Flo said he could still go to a local community college. Plus I think his decision had more to do with JJ losing his job, remember. That's why JJ borrowed the money from Sweet Daddy, cause he lost his job. And so at that point, nobody in the house had a job.

Although the story about James and Florida fighting wasn't the truth, you could somehow equate it to Thelma's arguement with Keith much easier than James almost beating up the minister.

instead of MILLER TIME, this is what you call FILLER TIME. The writers had to come up with something to fill in the time and came up with a lame fight between Thelma and Keith. This was stupid. They could have shown the ladies making preparations, writing out invitations, something, this stupid lame fight was just a filler.

but he still didn't have a job after all this...he went to school and played with Penny...no job was mentioned...so how come he felt he had to stay home and help with finances when in fact he didn't end up doing just that?

Well, his heart was in the right place, but he never did get a job tho did he?
TVFactFan 09-30-2005, 11:02 AM I'm with you Irene, i don;t understand the statement by Michael either
Ireneparalegal 09-30-2005, 08:03 PM Ok, Craft and Retro agree with me regarding this. I knew I wasn't crazy. I kinda thought Retro might come up with a loophole somewhere, saying Michael did have a job, he mentioned it and I just didn't catch it. But I was right. Michael wasn't working so what was the big HOOPLA!!?? Stupid writers.
An 80s Guy 10-01-2005, 07:43 PM yes that did happen
