View Full Version : 4 Questions I have abt Thelma getting Married episode...
Ireneparalegal 09-22-2005, 09:03 PM 1) When JJ said "Smiling Leon Spinks eats here all the time", this statement would only make sense to those of us familiar with the boxer since he is from that era. If someone who didn't grow up in that era heard that statement, they are probably scratching their heads asking, "Who is Leon Spinks?" For those who don't know, he was a famous boxer who had missing teeth, hence, the comment that he ate Thelma's food and that's how he supposedly lost his teeth.
2. Why were there 6 dinner plates at the dinner table when there were only five adults present? Who was the sixth person?
3. Wasn't it rude for Keith to have his calls forwarded to Thelma's house? It seems to me a gentleman wouldn't have done that considering he had yet to meet her family. And what was so important that couldn't wait until morning? The "deal" could have waited a few hours, and beside, isn't it awkward for a manager to ask his client abt a deal, isn't that what managers' are for, so they can wheel and deal in the best interest of their client?
4. Wouldn't it have been better for Sweet Daddy to keep the locket AS COLLATERAL until the Evans' paid the $1000 he was owed? I know it was a "nice" gesture that the writers dreamed of, but in the real world, that joker wouldn't have let them slide that easy. It would have been more realistic to do the collateral thing, he then gets his $$ in payments, and when they are done paying him back, he gives back the locket. JMO
Ireneparalegal 09-23-2005, 12:07 AM boo hoo...no one wants to answer me.....so sad.....lol
Brieannas21 09-23-2005, 12:31 AM I'll give it a try
I don't know why their were six plates maybe they thought Willona would stop over, I never really paid any attention to the plates.
I thought it was strange that Kieth would have his manager/agent call him over at the Evan's, but that was important to him and if the call came in he wanted to know instead of wait and think about it all during their date. Back then they didn't have cells phones and pagers. I can see Kieth telling his manager that when the deal was done to call him over at his girls.
And Sweet Daddy had a sweet side to him even though he was a pimp and numbers runner LOL. I thought it was a very sweet thing that he did, As he said "Sweet daddy has a mama too" LOL

thank u thank u for your input...i can go to sleep now...LMAO
as for the dinner plates, Willona and Penny were there so that just abt covered all the family. It just looked so dumb with that plate set there for NO ONE!!!
Yeah i know that Sweet Daddy was made to have some kind of heart, but to keep it a little more real, it would have been a good idea to do that collateral thing, and then have it mentioned when they got it back.

Irene, Leon spinks was still fighting in the late 80's/early 90's
Ireneparalegal 09-23-2005, 09:56 PM That may be, but do you think someone who is watching GT for the first time will know who he is???? Or why he happened to be mentioned. My daughter asked who he was. I said a famous boxer from back in the day. She said, "So what was the point abt mentioning his name, I don't get it." I then told her abt his teeth missing and then she started laughing. Mind you, she is 21.
Not only that, he was not as popular as he was back in the beginning of his career, which is why he was mentioned on GT. You got to remember, this is a fighter who went downhill in the 90's, so much so he became homeless for a time. If one mentions Muhammed Ali, that's different. You could mention the name of a legend who excelled in their field, but Leon, as damn good as he was, people are almost forgetting abt him. I did, up until JJ made his funny ass comment, then I said, Oh yeah, I forgot abt that dude.
