when Penny was being abused, she wanted to remain with her mother, it was obvious, she covered up for her mother, she lied abt the way she really was injured, she didn't want her "mama" to be in trouble...all in all, in her own sad way, she loved her mother. this is a pattern among abused children/adults. anyhow, in the episode when Willona's old flame came back to town wanting to marry her (again!) Willona didn't want to because of Penny needing stability. Then when Willona tries to explain to Penny what would Penny had done 3 months prior if Penny had been offered a family and a home would she have taken that chance. Penny said "Yes". That is the writers talking in that situation. It's easy to say what she may have done in that situation, but Penny didn't know any better when she was being abused. She just knew she loved her mother and wanted to abuse to stop. She would not have left her mother if given a "new family and home". No child would jump up and leave like that. This to me, gave the impression of Penny being hypocrite, or at least another condradiction on Good Times.

Oooh deep. But she did jump up and leave like that. The reason Penny showed up at the Evans was because JJ cared about her and was nice to her and she was willing to run away to be with him. So if she found a family like that 3 months prior she probably would have done the same thing if that family showed they really cared about her.

I think it would have been the same situation, Penny wanted someone to care about her, but she still would have defended her Mama, just like we saw it played out with the Evans.

No she ended up at the Evans because she followed J.J home.

I wouldn't exactly call her a hypocrite. A confused child yes, but not a hypocrite.

Why do you think she followed JJ home? I know you don't like the 4 part Penny eps, but do you know why she followed JJ home. It's because of what happened on the bus. Do you know what happened? Let me know.

According to J.J., Penny was about to get kicked off the bus, and J.J. in his fake preacherlike voice got the riders of the bus to give her money. She was so grateful to him that she came to his apartment to thank him. And so begins the 5th season of "Good Times".

I remember when he was telling that story, it was such a long stupid story, especially the preaching part

i guess she got so used to lying since she had to cover up the fact she was being abused. she would lie to friends who probably inquired abt her injuries. from that she became used to making up things and just flat out lying. she also wanted to live in a different world then what she was living in. all make believe. so sad.
