I went to Amazon.com to see about Munsters Season 2, and the package art has been changed. It is no longer the pic of Herman with his mouth closed, it's a new design, with his mouth open. But it looks really ugly. I say it changed for the worse.

(Scroll down to look at pix.)

Its the same pic, but they just added a different mouth. I agree with you, it changed for the worse. It looks horrible, and it looks really fake!

I think it's because the digi-pak wouldn't fit inside the first head, so they had to widen it, and the new design really looks bad.

What the heck? That's the ugliest DVD cover I've ever seen! What is with them and combining photos for the Munsters DVD's? I don't get why they just wouldn't use a photo of Herman they didn't need to alter (or a photo of the family on season 1).

They tried to make the new DVD cover like the below photo (left), but I would have preferred regular packaging, and a Season 2 family photo (right).

The photo for the First Season DVD set was off, too, the way they combined early and later makeup of the cast.

I emailed Gord Lacey at tvshowsondvd.com, and he said that Universal doesn't know yet, which package to go with.

But, I have a feeling it will be the second package, because I think Universal wants to play the goofy monster image for kids, right before Halloween.

I like the first one better but I don't think the second one is that bad

I'd have preferred a family portrait with Pat Priest. The manipulated cover certainly looks fake.

OK, now this is getting rediculous!

Here are 4 different versions of Season 2 cover art!

#1 - The graphic at TVShowsOnDVD.com
#2 - The graphic at DVDEmpire.com
#3 - The graphic at Amazon.com
#4 - The graphic at DVDPlanet.com

Guys,

Why couldn't Universal use the same type of regular packaging design like they have for Season 1?

Because Universal wants to be stupid idiots and give us a hard time, and screw everything up!

If they are going to go with a wider box, they should do picture number 4.

I was wondering if any episode Herman smiles like the new DVD cover. I found one time where he does smile like that. It's in episode 16.

I've been avoiding watching the second season episodes on TV Land to keep the viewing of the 2nd season DVDs when they're released more enjoyable. More lost footage!
A cast photo with Pat Priest on the DVD cover would be proper.

Of the 19 things on the Family of Fright DVD (that should have come out August 2004) only 5 things have been released to us by Universal. The Color Pilot, and the 4 A&E Bios. The other 14 items have been shelved, witch raises the question, will Universal release a third set with these items, or will Image Entertainment go ahead and release the Family of Fright DVD, just without the 5 items Universal used on the Seasonal DVD sets.

I was lucky enough to get ahold of an early copy of the First Family of Fright DVD, and post pics of the third pilot on this message board. The pics are still in your old thread, Laugh30, entitled "DeCarlo Pilot Outtake".

I figure about 93 minutes of lost footage we'll get in the 2nd season release. 3 minutes restored per episode times 31 episodes.
My numbers might be off.

I just checked Amazon, Universal Studios has scrapped the open mouthed Herman Munster packaging, and will go with this...

Could it be that they're picking up on this discussion of the cover art on this board?

I don't know, those Universal execs are kind of sneeky. (Whoops, I've said too much! :D)

Let's cross our fingers and toes that we see a third release from one of the two companies in question (Universal or Image)! That stuff sounded wonderful, it would be a shame for all that restored, excellent material to go to waste.
