View Full Version : Money Talks...Maddie Walks
MLfan 09-20-2005, 01:06 PM Hi everyone,
I just finished watching this episode for the 2nd time. I believe there was a thread on this subject before, but I still can't figure out why Maddie is so angry with David at the end. He absolutely did the right thing in my opinion. It wasn't as if he knew what card Sawyer was holding. He was looking out for her, being reasonable. And at the end, when she was expressing her feelings to Miss Dipesto, about possibly finding someone to share a piece of her heart
with, and then changing her mind because of what David did...
Also, does anyone know how to play stud poker? I was trying to figure out why Maddie would have ultimately won.
Thanks :p

Hi ML fan. David would have won at the end. He had 2 queens I think, I don't remember what Sawyer had, maybe it was 2 9s which would have lost to David's 2queens.
I never really got why she was so mad at the end either. Sure he would have won if he had went for it, but there was no way to know for sure, so folding was the best bet. She would have lost everything if he had lost. She must have thought he lost on purpose but I don't understand why should would think that. Someone else please explain.
kismet 09-20-2005, 01:55 PM I'm not much of a poker player so I'm not sure how the game is actually played.
I always thought that she was mad at him because she thought he had lost on purpose so they could keep on working together. I also thought she was taking out her frustrations against David instead of the real target: Ron Sawyer.
It's not like David have the most fantastic hand and he knew he would win.
There were many moments in Moonlighting when I said "HUH", but I kept on loving it anyway - because all that really mattered was the relationship between David and Maddie. I wish the writers/producers/big shots would have thought about THAT when season 5 was being produced. Nobody cared about the cases - who was the genius who decided on "pals, buddies, friends" and not "lovers, partners"?

Right on Kismet!! UGH, that last season still irks me :( Who was the genius that came up with pals? Can you imagine everyone sitting around the brainstorming desk, and hearing them say, "Hey, let's make Maddie and David good friends."
Yeah, what a great idea! And wow, wouldn't that give us GREAT ratings. And they thought having them together would get them on Sunday night :) How stupid! Right, that would have totally killed the show ;) Not pals, not Annie, Maddie and David together. Sure.
Okay, Kismet sorry. I didn't mean to write the "A" word.

gypsygem81 09-20-2005, 04:06 PM I know we always moan about season 5 and it's probably getting boring, but it's so justified! God, it's awful. Doesn't anyone else think that their characters seemed to change too? They seem to act and do things totally out of character. Sometimes, I think Bruce/David even talks differently. It's probably just my imagination, but sometimes his voice just sounds really stupid and smartass like. Know what I mean? Like he's putting it on. And Maddie doesn't seem as uptight as she used to be, which was part of her character. Why would that suddenly just disappear? Like the scene in Take My Wife, when she kisses David on her table in the office. I know everyone likes that scene, but it just seems completely out of character for her to do that, especially in the workplace!
*End of rant*

dreams200377 09-20-2005, 06:05 PM Hey Gem,
I know exactly what you mean about David/Bruce sounding different. I think you're right, it is sort of smartass-like. I mean he was always a smartass, but a lovable one, ya know? In the last season, he wasn't very lovable at all. :( I even get that sense from him, in more recent movies too, and don't like him much. I don't know what it is. T
hat's why I love the first 2 seasons so much, and much of the third. They just clicked. It was like they were the characters. Towards the end, it just went away. So sad. I am probably rambling on and making no sense, so I apologize. Too bad they couldn't "re-do the last 5 years," to sort of borrow from Maddie in Lunar Eclipse. Had the series continued in the vein it started with, it would have been complete perfection!
Ok, I'm really done now. Thanks for listening :)

Tazmania 10-02-2005, 06:57 AM I think it was jus really obvious that everybody was fat up (?) with the show at the end, I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY??!! , but anyway it's understandable looking at it from their point of view.
I must say I don't hate all the epi's in the 5th.
I like Plastic Fantastic just because of the almost kissing scene and a couple of epi's more.
But that moment in Plastic still reflects the chemistry they had (have).

It certainly does! Love that part, but we were so cheated. I really wish they had kissed. :(
kismet 10-02-2005, 01:02 PM It's "fed up".
I think they were just "going through the motions" during much of the fifth season.
There were some really great moments (and some really bad ones) during the final season. It was the direction that the show took that was really troubling. First, they concentrated on making them detectives - like anyone cared about the cases. Then, of course, they made them pals, which ML fans just loved - NOT! Finally, after making them detective friends, they bring Annie  into the picture. The entire 5th season made no sense. So Maddie, who is now David's "pal", is supposed to care as much as David did during the Sam stuff. Were the writers asleep?
Of course, when I'm discouraged, about it I just pop in In 'n Outlaws and I feel soooooooooooo good again. The Color of Maddie, Those Lips Those Lies, In 'n Outlaws, Plastic Fantastic Lovers (some parts) and A Womb With A View still can bring a big smile to my face.
Tazmania 10-02-2005, 04:52 PM Thanx Kis I knew I wrote that wrong....
And you hit the jackpot with these epi's, their my fav's too!
Cybill is VERY sexy at the pooltable when she's supposed to know nothing about pool, love that scene...;)
Tazmania 10-02-2005, 04:53 PM It certainly does! Love that part, but we were so cheated. I really wish they had kissed. :(
Me 2!!
I was so angry when I saw that for the 1st time!
Why not, why not!!!
