View Full Version : Recycle Bin help
DuhDuh539 09-19-2005, 10:29 PM So I right clicked on a pic, and saved it in my "My pictures" under "New Folder 1" which is a folder that has a few other pics in it too under "My pictures" which is all under "My computer (which most of you already knew)
Well yeah I right clicked and saved it so I could transfer (upload) it to my friend in Cali. It was a pic of me and my friends from a few days ago. One of my friends was mooning a streetlight and all of the rest of us were in the background with thumbs up and thumbs down and yeah LOL it was really funny and I just HAD to capture it on my camera as a joke.
After I uploaded it on to my Cali friend, I right clicked on the pic, deleted it, which sent it to the recycle bin...Then I emptied the recycle bin and it said something like "are you sure you want to delete this 1 picture" and put "yes"
My question is...now that I emptied my recycle bin, is that pic PERMANENTLY gone, or is it still stored some place? like in a hidden file or something...
Cause I HAVE to delete it or my PRUDE of a mom will flip out and never let me go out again...so yeah answer please!
dawsongirl 09-19-2005, 10:58 PM I'm pretty sure it's gone forever.

for all intents and purposes it is gone...
..unless your prude mom knows how to run one of the many "undelete" programs out there. All the information for the files on your computer are stored in a big table - when you "delete" a file all it does is just remove the title of the file in the table, the information is still there until you write over it. There are a number of programs that you can use to permanently delete files by writing over them multiple times

Would the only way my mom would find deleted pic be if she had a special program (like one that would have to be installed just for undeleting stuff), or could she find the pic with just basic steps that apply for every computer?
swedeace 09-19-2005, 11:56 PM Try:
BadCopy Pro
It restores data, BUT.... your hard is most-likely large, so it WILL take a lonnnng time to scan and restore ALL data you've deleted.
This program does a really good job restoring damaged/deleted data off storage devices. I am not 100% sure if it'll recover the harddrive, but you can try it. Doesn't hurt to try, right?
Here's a free evaluation version to try: http://www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/
We use it at work to help recover students' and instructors' data, and it usually does the trick.

depends... does she have any reason to be actively LOOKING for something, and what do you mean by a "medium" amount of computer knowledge? I could probably find it pretty easily, but it really would depend on if I were looking for something and what steps you had taken to remove it...
but if you don't clean your temp files it would be VERY easy to find
DuhDuh539 09-20-2005, 12:46 AM Well 1st i saved it on my "my pictures" but then i deleted it...once i deleted it, it was then sent to the recylcle bin...then i did "empty recycle bin". Those are basically the steps...and its no longer in "my pictures" with my other pics, and I also DID delete all temp. internet files...
so after those steps, is it still VERY easy to find, cause basically right now i can't find it when i look thru my computer, but i don't know if it is in some sort of other file which i haven't looked in yet...
