I just got diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome today, and I'm taking Zelnorm to help control my symptoms, and it's working for me so far. Anyone else have IBS? What medicine(s) you on, if any? How you coping with it?

Well, I'm familiar with it anyway. Before I had a doctor correctly tell me I had anxiety, they diagnosed me with IBS. I was on Axid, Prevacid, Reglan, Dicyclomine, I think there was something else in there...Lomotil once (I hate that drug with a passion)...I don't know, but I had a damn drug store for a problem that was caused by anxiety. Once I curbed the anxiety, my stomach problems went away.

Reglan was really hard to regulate. Too little wouldn't help and too much made me constipated. The right amount was something ridiculous like 3/4th of a pill. Dicycolmine made me dizzy. The only one that was good was Prevacid.

Needless to say, it gave me a harder time than I had off all that junk.

My mother has it horribly. She's on something with Atropine in it... which boggles me. Why the hell would Atropine be given for IBS? But whatever. She's doing good as long as she takes it.

Isn't that for the heart or something? It's mentioned on ER a lot :D

I probably have it, but I was never properly diagnosed. It's a long story. There is definately something wrong with my stomach. I usually get a stomach ache everyday after I eat. They're not just a normal stomach aches, either. They are horrible, extremely painful stomach aches that last for hours. I stopped telling my parents about them about a month ago because I really don't want to go to the gastro-intestinal doctor again and have to deal with that. I don't know what to do about it.

Well I don't know the medical uses of it, but Atropine is a strong alkaloid psychedelic found in the poisonous plants Belladonna, Brugumise and Datura.

You should get it checked out. It could be something minor or something serious. It's better to know than not know so you can get treatment. I'm glad I got it checked out and getting treatment for it!

If it's your stomach, then it's probably not IBS; IBS is more pain and suffering in your intestines/lower abdomen. My guess would be some kind of ulcer. Have you tried taking Mylanta or Maalox or Pepto before you eat? Those sometimes help coat the stomach so the acid secretions don't bother your stomach as much.

According to WebMD, they use Atropine for all sorts of stomach problems. It said they also use it to counter poisoning from plants...probably the ones you mentioned.

Usually if my stomach is starting to bother me I take Prevacid. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.
