Legendary director of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, THE SOUND OF MUSIC AND WEST SIDE STORY, Robert Wise has died. He died yesterday of old age. He was 91.
Tonight, let the earth stand still to pay him tribute. I'll try to give a moment of silence if I'm awake and I remember tonight at 1207 am, when power was restored in LA in the fictional "The Day The Earth Stood Still" starring Michael Rennie. At 12 am in the movie, lights and all unnecessary electric went out in San Francisco for 7 minutes as a warning from outer space.
The film was not your average sci-fi/alien 50s flick. Check it out for yourself, and see just how real it is and how relevant it is today, in a society gone mad.
Without Mr. Wise, this film and "West Side Story" and "The Sound of Music", would have never made their way to the theaters in the big way that they did.
Rest in peace sir. And Mr. Wise, you can be assured that tonight, in memory of you, the earth will stand still.
