A) Florida's Depature from the show

B)Addition of Penny

C)Larger Role for Bookman

D) All the Above

My choice is A and B, 40%-(A) and 60%-(B)-lol

Florida's departure from the show.

It was bad enough when John Amos' character was killed off. Esther Rolle was the heart and soul of Good Times and watching those episodes without her is like watching Petticoat Junction without Bea Benaderet. After getting Esther back the damage was done and there was nothing to repair it.

I am almost completed with the DVD of the 5th season; and I think the reason why Good Times fell in the ratings was a combination of a lot of "things". But, I think the main reason why the show ratings were poor was because majority of the episodes were STALE and not do very enjoyable, especially that one particular ep where JJ dreamt that he white..that is got to be the WORST Good Times episode EVER !!!...Lord, it was horrendous. It was sooo bloody bad, that I felt like taking the DVD and throwing it in the trash can...What an INSULT to my intelligence; also, some of the worst acting..I have ever seen on any Good Times episode as well...Just Plain TERRIBLE ohno:

"Give me a double dose of Keith eps anyday"

I totally agree with the both of you, it just wasn't the same after John left and then Esther left. I think Season 6 was sooooooooooooo much better then season 5. There were a few good episodes but all in all season 5 sucked.

E) Ran out of ideas for episodes

I disagree The Judith Cohen Story was the worst ever. At least the JJ episode dealt with someone from the cast and not a one-miss blunder like Judy Cohen.

I'm glad to hear what you think about season 5 70's. That's what I felt, the first 4 seasons had good topics they dealt with, but after the 4 part Penny eps, it's like they ran out of ideas for episodes and just wrote any ole stale show.

I did like when JJ dreamt he was white tho.

And they ran out of story ideas because both stars left. You could always think of something for the James Evans character

They had ideas, it's just that they couldn't be utelized to there fullest potential without James or Florida around.

Yeah, the I Had a Dream ep was pretty horrible. It actually started out good, but ended up being a bit one-dimensional and cartoonish. JMO :D

Dear God, the writing on that particular episode was absolutely horrendous and that goes for the acting as well...
