A separate study recently concluded that a major earthquake along the fault could be overdue, given clusters of the events seen in the geologic record. Because the fault is offshore, scientists say its rupture could create a devastating tsunami.
The good news is, the chance is still remote even though it's 30 times more likely than normal.

Hmmmmm....I have been hearing this same thing since I was 6 years old. That was a looooooong time ago. I don't think I could imagine such a thing. Maybe it's denial. I live in California. The last bad earthquake we had no gas, no electricity, no phone. I was cleaning up broken glass and praying my tropical fish wouldn't keel over without their water temp. being kept at a certain temp.
as far as the tsunami, there was one up in Crescent City in the 60's.
We are due for a major one, and the fact that we live here we have been hearing this kind of stuff forever.
BTW, no laughing at my post should an earthquake hit us tonight!! LOL

Yikes! This is pretty scary... I don't think I could bear to watch the news reporting any more unimaginable devastation... :(

I live in the Pacific Northwest. They've been predicting both a massive earthquake and Mt. Rainier erupting for years. Will it happen soon??

The time span is many hundreds of years apart. Of course, it's been many hundreds of years since the last one!
