It was real tears as they were overcome by their emotions regarding the loss of Diana Hyland, who played their mother on the show. Her death also meant the death of the character, which I think was the best move. That is real life. I cry so damn hard when I see that scene.

Tender moments between Archie and Gloria - When Gloria suffered a miscarriage in Season 1 when Archie came into the room to comfort her. She told Archie that she loved him. In the season opener of season 6 when Gloria discovered that she was pregnant. Her and Mike got into an argument and he stormed out of the house. When Gloria sat on Archie's lap for comfort I was brought to tears. You can Sally Struthers loved Carroll O'Connor like a father in those scenes.
Edith's 50th Birthday when she was nearly raped.
Mike and Gloria's final episode especially with Mike and Archie saying goodbye.

Another moment that touched me was a short-lived series called, "The Royal Family" It starred Redd Foxx and Della Reese. As most people know, Redd Foxx died on the set of this show. I got all 12 episodes of this on dvd I bought from someone. The episode where they had to kill Redd's character was emotional, because Della Reese and other cast members were crying in real life at the funeral they were giving. Della was singing and got all choked up and Redd's picture was hanging up there. Just for the record, the guys who played Bubba and Melvin on Sanford and Son were in that episode and gave a brief speech.

Yeah, anytime James was referred to made me emotional.
As for that series with Redd, that was sooooooo damn sad!!!! It was a good show, but Redd had to leave and go make others in Heaven laugh.
I like that people can get emotional. I love it when a man is not afraid to show his feelings. I have a 3 year old and I am gonna do him right and let him know it's perfect to cry. It's perfectly alright to have feelings. He is going to treat women with RESPECT.

There are two Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes that get me a little misty eyed. "Tears of the Prophets" when Jadzia is killed and the series finale, "What You Leave Behind".

I don't really cry much, but there are a few scenes that have made me choke up.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show - The last scene in the newsroom, Mary's family speech and the group hug. How anyone could not be moved by that is beyond me.
The Golden Girls - The last episode when Dorothy keeps coming back for one more hug, and then finally she doesn't.
Murphy Brown - The scene in the bullpen in the finale when Corky gives her little speech. Also the episode "One" where Barry Manilow plays "I Am Your Child" and Murphy tells her son Avery that she loves him.

Good choices. I agree with the last one especially. I watched that last scene over and over of that episode, and I too get the chills while watching it. I think I get the chills more than I cry actually in an emotional scne. Kristen, that Golden Girls one really got me too, that and the one with the man with the alzheimers, the one with Sophia getting married and the triple by-pass on Rose.

Little House on the Prairie - when the residents of Walnut Grove decided to blow up the town rather than let the Railroad take it away from them. Not only was it a statement of defiance it was also the actors saying good-bye to the set where they had spent many happy years together. By the way, I am a man and I do cry!!! There may be "no crying in baseball" but there is crying in real life and there's nothing wrong with that. REAL MEN CRY!!! :wave:

Boy Meets World- Final episode, When the whole gang shows up at their old High School class room one last time before they leave and Eric tells Mr. Finney to say that he loved them, And when Mr. Finney say's "Class dismissed" for the last time and he gets chocked up while saying it.....................I sobbed buckets on that episode

A Different World- When they were singing End of the Road, and you could see Freddie actually crying and then in the last shot of the show when Whitley say's "Where off to a different world" and she was chocked up saying it.

The final episode of "Boy Meets World" makes me cry everytime, especially when Feeny says "I Love You All, Class Dismissed"

Growing Pains-when Carol's boyfriend "Sandy" was killed in a car accident, that gets me everytime I watch that episode.

Many of those mentioned above, and also the last episode of "Chico and the Man" in which Freddie Prinze appeared...because I know that very night he shot himself. I find it ironic that the episode was about Chico and an old friend of Ed's wiring the garage for a loudspeaker and the friend pretending to be God telling Ed that life is to be enjoyed...

The episode in which his girlfriend rejected Chico's proposal because he would never be rich, as well as any other in which Freddie Prinze was required to cry as part of the plot...

I don't remember the 2-part episode in which Chico's death was finally addressed, and I hope I never have occasion to see it. From what I have heard, I would cry non-stop!

That part always gets me, too!! Actually it starts the moment Ricky realizes that he is going to be the father after thinking that it's somebody in the audience, and the camera go close up to his face. Just his expression does it for me.

I have to confess that there were several episodes of HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN
(and sometimes LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE) that were, for me, real "tear-

Most of my favorite shows; Monk, Full House, Little House on the Prairie and Frasier have made me cry at one time or another. But the only time I was near tears while watching Seinfeld was during the last episode when the camera panned away for the last time.

I can't believe I haven't replied to this. There are a lot of shows with episodes that have made me tear up at one time or another.

The Golden Girls-The last episode when Dorothy got married and left. The girls were holding each other and crying.
-When Rose had her heart surgery.
-When Phil died.

Full House-When they were all watching the video of Pam.
-The episode of Arrest Ye Merry Gentleman had Mickey Rooney as a guest star. Jesse invited him to their house for Christmas and had him talk to his granddaughter whom he hadn't spoken to in months. It was a very sad but sweet scene.
-When Papouli died.

Frasier-The episode the Maris Counselor when Niles broke down in front of Frasier and told him that it was officially over between him and Maris. Maris was having an affair with their marriage counselor and he caught them. It was a great emotional scene for DHP.
-Rooms with a View was an emotionally charged episode. Niles has to go in for open heart surgery. It had it's humor but the emotional scenes were top notch. It showed flashbacks of all the characters at different times in the hospital, and showed how everyone was dealing with Niles' surgery. The actors were superb in it. One of the best episodes in my opinion.
-When Niles and Daphne were holding their son David after his birth.
-The very last scenes of the last episode of the series, I cried my eyes out. It had a sad but wonderful ending.
-In Father's and Sons when a friend of Hester's visits and shares many similarities with Frasier and Niles. Martin questions whether or not he is their real father. In the end it turns out that the friend is gay and Martin really is their father. It was a great episode.
-The Return of Martin Crane is a great episode. Martin goes to work as a security guard and it shows Martin remembering different scenes from before and after he was shot. A very touching episode.

Dr. Quinn-In the pilot when Charlotte dies of a rattlesnake bite and asks Michaela to take care of her children.
-In the Epidemic when Michaela almost dies of the flu.
-In Wa****a when Sully and Michaela come across all the dead Indians. That was the toughest to watch for me.
-When Michaela gives birth to her daughter Katie.
-In Brother's Keeper when Ingrid dies of rabies and Matthew has to shoot Pup.
-In Cooper vs. Quinn when Matthew breaks down and tells Sully that he's losing his brother and sister. Great acting by Chad Allen.
-The very last episode.
-When Brian had to have brain surgery.
-In Pike's Peace when Sam died on Pike's Peak and Michaela was with her.

Saved by the Bell-When the animals they tried to save from the oil leak all died.
-When Jessie overdosed on caffeine pills.

Home Improvement-When John Binford died.
-When Jill's father died.
-When Randy was sick and they thought he was going to die.

Little House on the Prairie-When Mary went blind.
-When Albert was addicted to morphine and Charles helped him beat it.
-In The Lord is My Shepherd when little Charles Frederick died and Laura blamed herself.

The Cosby Show-The episode when Cliff's friend's daughter was addicted to drugs.

The Fresh Prince-When Will's father comes back but then abandons him again.

-John's funeral.
-Samantha's death.

-Grandpa Shawn's death.

Newsradio-Bill Moves On. any NR fan would've had to have been made out of stone not to feel moved by that considering the tragedy behind it

They were several times were I almost got emotional during the final week of the CBS soap opera Guiding Light. Particularly the Monday and Tuesday episodes where Billy/Vanessa and Buzz/Lillian got married on a yacht. Nola, Bridget and Dylan retirned on those days. Some moments that made me atart to choke up was when Nola blew a kiss to Company, When Phillip made up with Alan not realizing he died, Fletcher
reuniting taking Alex away with him and Ed and Holly going on a world cruise together.

The one time I really started to choke up was on the final episode when they had a montage of the past GL logos with audio of legendary (to me anyway) GL announcer Alan Berns. The rest of the episode was a bit disappointing but in those five or eight seconds a flood of memories came rushing in.

I also, had to hold the tears back at the very end of As the World Turns when Dr Bob retire said 'good night' and after he left the globe on the desk started turning. The music ayed was so sweeping and emotional. I have heard that the score was from 'The Prince of Tides', anyway it was an epic score.

The ending of Three's Company after they took one last look at the apartment then leave and Terri turns light off & closes the door :(

Gimme A Break the episode Joey's Train when they were coping with the Chief's death. Dolph Sweet passed away that previous season and my dad passed away that year. That was a hard episode to watch and I cried my eyes out on that one.

The China Beach episode, the last one I believe, where they visit the Vietnam Wall :( The song that was playing was amazing as well and sure contributed to me getting very misty. Emotional and moving.

there was a TV movie back in the 90s about Annete Funucello, the scenes with her trying to hide her M.S. from people by explaining her tripping, etc. by saying she had a little to much to drink etc. and denying to herself that she had it made my eyes water a little because it hit me so close to home because I was exactly the same way.

i cried when Cherry the "doughnut dolly" on "China Beach" died that made me really sad

The finial fair well episode of MASH, I actually just saw it again not long go.

I just finished watching Family Ties seasonal 7. During this season Steven has a heart attack. The family is in the waiting room and another lady is there waiting to hear about her husband. The doctor comes out to tell her, her husband has passed. This part of the episode really made me cry. The whole episode was a tear jerker but this part really did me in.

i used to have that on tape along with a "On Scene" episode where
Coast Guard Air Station Miami intercepted a aircraft carrying drugs the most memorable moments on that tape was when Frankie (Nancy Giles) sings "America the Beautiful" the other is when you see the target(in the "On Scene" episode with Coast Guard Air Station Miami) that also was one moment where narration worked very well(in this case Dave Forman of "On Scene") the other case where narration worked well was on the Olympic films of Bud Greenspan(ive got to says that Bud's brother David was a great narrator too IMHO)

i could add "Tania" on General Hospital too the way she died made me sad "Tania" was hit by a car while "Cherry" on China Beach was killed at the end of an all night morter attack

On Webster, George and Katherine had to tell Webster that his parents had died, because Webster thought they were coming back after him. No one had ever told him they died.

On Fresh Prince when Will's father left him and Will was hugging Uncle Phil asking him why his dad didn't want him. Also, where Carlton took the pills that were in Will's locker and landed him in the hospital.

On Boy Meets World where Angela's dad came to visit and convinced her to get back with Shawn. Especially when she tells him she loves him.

On Days of Our Lives when Zack Brady dies. He gets hit by a car. Hope goes ballistic in the hospital.

On Law and Order: SVU where Olivia and Elliott's wife Kathy are in the car accident and Kathy goes into labor and she's trapped in the car.

It's also kinda sad on All in the Family when Edith is working her butt off for Archie's St. Patrick's Day party and she's having trouble with her legs. Then she's sitting on the stairs and tells Archie that she can't move. Archie is really sweet to her in the next scene.

This wasn't a TV show but it was by far the saddest program I've ever seen. It was a TV movie in the mid 1970's called Death Be Not Proud starring Robby Benson as a high school student who had a brain tumor. It was based on a true story, the book the movie is based on written by his father. In the last scene, where it is now obvious he doesn't have much time left, a bandaged, deformed Robby Benson hobbles up to the stage to receive his diploma. One of the most unforgettable scenes you will ever see.

"Little House On The Prairie" the episode where Albert accidentally starts a fire and burns down the school for the blind, killing Mrs. Garvey and the baby.

i remember that..like when McMurphy holds her young daughter as she stands at the famous wall of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington then she recalls the name of a solder that died..that got me crying but then that song.. i don't think i remember a TV show making me cry like the "China Beach" finale "Hello Goodbye" did...until Megan died on One Life to Live.

A couple of mine are the same as you guys, and not all are classic shows. But, I'll share anyway. Here's my list in no particular order:

1. The Golden Girls - the episode where Sophia makes friends with the man who has Alzheimer's (I think his name was Alvin). The part where Dorothy has to tell her that he's not coming back kills me, along with the part before where Alvin doesn't remember Sophia. I think it gets me the most because one of my biggest fears is ending up like that, or having to see a family member go through that.

2. The Golden Girls - Finale, where the girls say goodbye one last time. :'( I wasn't old enough to remember when the finale originally aired, but it kills me in the re-runs.

3. Two and a Half Men - the scene after they killed off Charlie, where Alan is holding the urn and says something along the lines of "I'm gonna miss you". IDK why, but that part killed me.

4. Sherlock - The Reichenbach Fall - everything from the phone conversation between Sherlock and John, the jump from the roof of St. Bart's, to John's speech at Sherlock's grave. I still can't watch those scenes without sobbing uncontrollably.

5. Sherlock - His Last Vow - The scene where Mary shoots Sherlock, and everything going on in his mind palace, then when he flatlines at the hospital... oh man. I was in tears just as much as during The Reichenbach Fall. Totally cemented my hatred for Mary.

6. Fantasy Island - Baby/Marathon - the episode where Tattoo nearly adopts a baby. So cute! And then at the end where he decided to let a couple on the island adopt the baby instead, and wrote a letter to the baby for him to read in later years... my heart broke. </3

7. Fantasy Island - The Wedding - I cry at weddings in real life... this is no exception, lol. Not to mention I felt so bad for Roarke when Helena died... like, he spends all his time making others happy, and he can't even have his own happiness... :(

8. Fantasy Island - Naughty Marietta/The Winning Ticket - the part that killed me was when Roarke told Tattoo he could no longer stay on the island... omg, that was just too much. And when Roarke told Tattoo he was gonna miss him, and Tattoo replied "Not as much as I'm gonna miss you"... yep, I cried. Tattoo always belongs by Roarke's side! <3

Yeah, this is all I can think of for now...

On the very last "Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour", the gang is sitting in the living room listening to Edie Adams sing a beautiful version of "That's All". What makes this so poignant is that as soon as that last show ended , Lucy and Desi divorced, and were not speaking during the whole production. According to Adams, Lucy would burst into tears during the rehearsals.

One day at a time-Off we go, when all the furniture was out of the apartment and Ann and Sam leaving to move to London and everyone saying goodbye!

As a little boy, Megan's death on One Life to Live:(. And Mac Cory on Another World. I remember that on the latter one, me and my grandmom said it at the same time as Ada..."Rachel?":confused: and then Rachel said "Mac is gone.":( I went through *2* TV deaths that year- him on AW and Cherry on China Beach.

The series finale of “Desperate Housewives” was a tearjerker.

I am bumping this thread up to add a couple more. On Growing Pains in the episode Second Chance Carol's boyfriend Sandy dies after drunk driving. That episode really slapped us in the face with the consequences of drunk driving. Everyone was amazing in this episode. Tracey Gold was superb.
In the episode Eddie, We Hardly Knew Ye Maggie's father visits and confesses that he's dying. A very emotional and underrated episode in my opinion because Joanna Kerns was amazing in it. She killed it when Maggie broke down crying after Jason told her her father had died. Alan Thicke was incredible as the loving, supportive husband. It really doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Dallas: When Bobby Ewing Died which led of course led to the Dream Season.

Doctor Who: Right before Matt Smith regenerated into Peter Capaldi.

The scenes on "As The World Turns" following the death of character Hal Munson. What made it so poignant was that Hal's portrayer, Ben Hendrickson, had killed himself in real life.

All of them should make us cry, no? I think all shows should make us go through all the emotions. Laugh, cry, and more. Except for Seinfeld of course. No crying, no hugging!

I would like to add a couple more to this list.
On Growing Pains in Birth of a Seaver, Maggie is holding newborn baby Chrissy and they are very proud parents as they look at her.
Jason: "Maggie, you did it!"
Maggie: "No Jason, we did it!"
I found that to be a real tearjerker because of all they went through to have another baby. Their youngest child had just turned 12 and they were both in their 40's by this point and they didn't think that even having another baby would even be possible. It makes us look back at season 1 Slice of Life II and how much Maggie was hoping to have another baby then and then two years later Maggie finally gets her wish. Good things come to those who wait. It had to have been hard to have a baby late in life.
In Murphy Brown when Murphy finally gives birth to Avery and she's holding him, Frank comes in with his video camera and asks Murphy to sing while holding the baby. She sings You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin, I admit I teared up. We got to see a softer side of Murphy if even for a moment.
One more I want to add. In Friends after Rachel gives birth to Emma and she's holding her, all that happens during that makes me cry. Just a lot of sad sentimental moments. :(

I should mention soaps b/c they are notorious for making me cry. I have cried watching General Hospital and Days of Our Lives as well as One Life to Live. But that's a credit to the actor, because usually it takes a lot to make me cry over a TV show.

One ep of In The Heat of The Night, “Fifteen, Forever” (4/25/1989), the entire town is affected when a drunk driving accident kills local cheerleaders returning from a game. That one tore me up, because of the fact a drunk driver could kill teenagers. And they were innocent cheerleaders returning from a game, and were celebrating.

I remember those two too. The drunk driving ep tore me up. Much like the In The Heat of The Night ep, “Fifteen, Forever” where there was a horrific drunk driving accident that claimed the lives of the entire Sparta High School cheerleading squad, much like Sandy died. Those two eps slapped me in the face. Much like "Tet 68" did on "China Beach' did. I've never had a TV show slap me in the face like that.
