By WENN
............................................
Australian actress/singer Olivia Newton-John had split up with her lover Patrick McDermott before he went missing in July, according to her nephew.
Emerson Newton-John claims the long-term relationship fizzled out after McDermott began drinking heavily, and he insists his aunt had no idea her partner was in serious financial trouble.
He says, "It just naturally came to an end.
"Livvy saw it was not progressing. She knew he was drinking, she probably didn't want to deal with it."
Emerson adds that McDermott was depressed for months leading up to his disappearance while on a fishing trip in California - but he believes he is more likely to have died in a drunken accident than staged his disappearance or committed suicide.
He adds, "It doesn't take much to fall off a boat and drown."

Brian 09-14-2005, 12:02 AM Could you please do me a favor and not put your thread titles in all-caps? It's rude (all-caps is considered "shouting") and other members are getting annoyed by it. Thank you.

I am only using it in the titles. It highlights the title. I had asked a moderator if I was breaking any rules regarding this and I was told "no". How could I be shouting if I am only using it in the title to highlight? I am not using all caps in my posts. I see other posters doing that in the title as well.

I understand that rule Brian, I was shown this by a moderator and they told me that my all caps in the titles was an exception since it's obvious I am not shouting, just highlighting a title of a post. But if you wish, I will refrain from this particular forum.
man the story of her and her bf has soo many twists and turns
Ireneparalegal 09-14-2005, 12:23 AM yeah it does, but what i still don't understand and still haven't found the answer, is why was his disappearance announced SO AFTER THE FACT?? Usually when there is a story and it's connected to a celebrity, it comes out sooo fast.
i dont know, apprently she didnt call the cops till like 3 weeks after he went missing
Ireneparalegal 09-14-2005, 12:27 AM I know that she was on tour in Australia, but still, he must have family or friends who wondered where he was at. and why wouldn't they call the cops. hmmmmm. kinda weird that no one seemed to "notice" he was gone?

I agree with you totally. Yeah, definitely nothing bad to say abt Olivia. She's a sweetheart. I just wonder abt other people. Also, I had seen a news report that he lived in a very tiny bungalow type apartment. they showed it, it looked like something a single man with little money would live in. Well, the fact that he had $$$ problems apparently shows in how he lived.
Dean Winchester 09-14-2005, 01:04 AM I suppose for Olivia's sake, it's a good thing they broke up. If he turns up dead and they were still together, it'd be really sad for her. She needs a good man.
It's so awful finding out what a jerk Matt Lattanzi really was considering he added much needed beefcake appeal to a few of her videos (seriously, who really disliked her objectification of him in the Landslide and Soul Kiss videos? lol) and she obviously loved him a lot.

Oh yeah, a big time jerk. Olivia is so sweet. I recall we had mentioned this before how she has had so much drama in her life. I wish her the best in her life.

have you seen recent pictures of Matt? the days of the hunk from the Soul Kiss video have long passed him by, lol
Ireneparalegal 09-14-2005, 01:24 AM funny you mentioned this. when I was reading your post I was wondering if he still was a hunk. I will take your word that his "hunk" days are wayyyy over. KARMA!!! LOL
Dean Winchester 09-14-2005, 01:37 AM it's kinda ironic that ONJ's boyfriend missing came into the news around the same time that Olivia releases her video collection on DVD as well as her first domestic release of new material in seven years.
Ireneparalegal 09-14-2005, 01:44 AM really??? hmmmmm...
Dean Winchester 09-14-2005, 01:46 AM interesting...
it kinda is because Olivia doesn't record at the frantic pace she did in the 1970's, and her last two albums didn't even get released in America, and she finally records a US album as well as a video collection, and right before they're set to come out, the news about her boyfriend comes out on the news. In a way, it actually got her name out there, but I'd rather her get her name out there over a song or something instead. I haven't really been wild about anything she's recorded since Gaia from 1994 though. Since then she's basically gone through the motions in a "well, I guess I'm an oldies artist now" way, but from that stretch of albums between 1976's Don't Stop Believin' through 1988's The Rumour, she's definately one of my top 5 female artists.

im one of her "grease fans" i dont listen to her music much but i absolutely loved her in grease. but that is kinda coincidental- its like when britney spears got married right around the time her cd came out... ;) but seriously i hope everything turns out ok.

me too. I hope nothing but the best. Just very weird.
I have always loved Olivia's music. I go back to the 70's when she first came out. She appeared on the pop and country charts. I love that music. I hated her Xanadu movie, that was sooooo awful. GREASE, well, that's unanimous, she was at her best!

if you like the Grease stuff, check out the "Magic" cd sometime, it's got all of the major hits between 73-83 (1983's Twist Of Fate was her last "big hit" so it leaves off with that). I like "Gold" best of her Greatest Hits but it's a 2 disc set and it's overkill if you're not as well versed in her catalog, especially since there are so many post-Physical tracks even though "Heart Attack" and "Twist Of Fate" were the only real hits after that album.

Xanadu was sooooo bad, but I love the music even moreso than Grease. "Magic" is definately one of my fave songs of hers.
Ireneparalegal 09-14-2005, 02:03 AM I always felt that there were two singers in the music industry who had the voice of an angel:
Karen Carpenter
Olivia Newton John
her song "magic" reminds me of when i was becoming interested in guys. I love when a song brings such good memories like that.
Dean Winchester 09-14-2005, 02:05 AM Karen and Olivia were really good friends, I know there were photos taken of Olivia mourning after Karen's funeral

Yeah, I recall that. It was so shocking when she died. Such a loss. Karen, to me, had the ultimate voice because you could actually UNDERSTAND THE WORDS BEING SUNG. Very crystal clear voice, very angelic.
