Hi, everybody! This is my first time ever posting on this board. I have been a fan of "The Partridge Family" since I was a little girl (during the 1970's). David Cassidy is the main reason I love the show so much. I thought it would be fun to share some things we all love about him. For me it would be his hair, his eyes, his smile, his laugh, and his adorable dimples.

What are some things you all love about him?

I forgot to mention--let's keep it clean, okay?

It was a good show. I remember seeing it when it was originally broadcast but havn't seen it in reruns. I'm not sure if it is presently showing in reruns or not. From what I remember Keith was the straight man and Danny was set up with a lot of the dialog that generated the laughs. I remember the show always ended with a song which was probably why most people liked the show. I thought the storylines were good and I would have watched the show even without the singing at the end.

I like the show, but Cassidy seems really full of himself in real life.

Now, Shirley is the one I have fantasies about.

I always liked David Cassidy's smile. Just like his Dad's. His brothers all have great smiles too.
About him seeming full of himself, I tend to think he was at one time. I started reading his book "C'mon Get Happy" and I never finished it, because it seemed so whiny. Maybe it gets better at the end. Ofcourse, I imagine it would be hard not to be full of yourself if you get to be as famous as he was. He seems to have mellowed with age and seems like a nice guy. I still love his music. My kids like it too.

Did David Cassidy write the songs that they recorded? If he did he was super creative at such a young age. I remember when I was in grade school reading that David 'retired' from the music business. The article said he was 27. If he was able to thing up those songs that he sang then it is too bad he didn't pursue songwriting thruout his life.

I just looked at 2 of the Partridge Family Albums(we still have some of the records). David Cassidy is listed as a co-writer on one song. Wes Farrell and Tony Romeo wrote alot of them. Bobby Hart wrote a few and there are others mentioned.

What a great question!! David has always been a songwriter. He has written albums and cd's worth of songs. He writes and performs his own music on many of his solo albums/cds. They can be hard to find (on ebay) but are so well worth it! Old Trick New Dog is still out in stores (1998). I know of a fantastic fansite for those of you who may want an update on David's career. It is called http://cassidyland.com and David's official website is www.Davidcassidy.com. (http://www.Davidcassidy.com.) Cassidyland will be doing a moderated chat on David's TV appearances on 9/13-check it out!

Hi everyone,
Thanks Smarti35, for mentioning Cassidyland!

It's awe-inspiring how David Cassidy keeps amazing his old fans and attracting new ones with his scope of talent. As Smarti mentioned, he's been writing great songs for 3 decades, as well as acting, producing, recording, touring and giving his time to charitable causes. And he just keeps getting better at all of it! (Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet on this board, but David will be releasing his new CD, Then and Now, this October in the UK, and after that in North America!)

Oh, and of course there's that voice. And those flashing eyes. And that infectious smile. And especially the way he's turning a whole new generation on to Mack the Knife and other classic tunes these days. It's pure magic to watch him onstage during that number, and SO worth the price of a ticket in itself. Go see him if you can!

Hope to see you all at the Cassidyland chat too!

I'll be interested hearing David's version of "Mack the Knife". A great song covered by greats like Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Louie Armstrong, and "Lady Ella too"(Frank's words).

I want to hear "Mack the Knife" also. A great song. Bobby Darin's version is the beat I've heard so far but I have yet to hear David's version.

I love Keith cuz he was so cute and such a dork.DC looks terrible with his hair so short. He looks like Michael J. Foxs' uptight older brother.I wouldn't expect DC to wear the old shag, but there are plenty of longer styles that would he would look great with.Aside from that,he looks fantastic!

I find David Cassidy overrated, scrawny, and only so talented musically. I too like comely Shirley Jones a good deal.

David Cassidy was a very handsome guy but let's not forget that red headed kid brother of his. What a fox! His smart ass comments just made him even sexier to me. David, you had some competition and didn't even know it.

David covered "Mack the Knife"?

I think Rod Stewart did.

IMO, a more apt question would be what's TO love re him.

Yes, he had some musical and comedic talent back in the day but he's not treated those who loved him or his fans as well as he might have. Still, I hope he finds his peace.

I was just noticing that late in the series, when Susan Dey had her hair cut, David's was not too much shorter than hers, at all! I'd been thinking about the Cassidy family today because Jack's time-travel episode of "Bewitched" aired this morning on Antenna TV.

(Had to correct some typos in this post)

It's always a matter of opinion as to who is or isn't "to like."

But after saying that, not that you're wrong about the way David Cassidy "treats others." He may have not been nice. (Remember too that gossip columns can be exaggerated and sensationalized), but even after saying that, others in general haven't been nice to David Cassidy to begin with.

Since he was found by agents, producers, and whomever else to be highly marketable there have been people who exploited him, and got money off of him; and fans did things like hound him, tear his clothes and hair and caused him to live like a hunted animal.

He seemed to take all of it very well.
Back during his heyday, a 14-year-old got trampled by other fans during one of his concerts and he reportedly called the girl's parents and would have attended her funeral to pay his respects and offer his condolences to her family, but he didn't want to cause a circus-like atmosphere and also creating another dangerous situation with crowds.
He reportedly also said that the incident will haunt him the rest of his life and he called it quits with big concerts partially to avoid future such incidents. He sounds like a decent person for all his faults.

He has also done charity work, but that could be said to just be a publicity stunt.
What can a person in his situation do, or what could a person in his situation have done?

Now all those years have caught up with him. He does have some major problems, and can't please everyone. He may not have been so nice to his family, but they actually have not always been nice to him either. His parents divorced when he was a boy, his dad rarely came to see him, when he became famous in The Partridge Family, his dad tried to micromanage his career, etc. David actually claims to be close to his brothers but yet it is a well known fact that they all rode on his coattails no matter any statements to the contrary . It is so obvious.

I think that it is not exactly right to say there's nothing to like about him , as much of a right you have to say that.
Of course it i s also not exactly right to say that he is to be liked just because he (as some "love-struck" females think) was a cute-looking boy. That focuses on his celebrity than deeds.

It just seems that it is all taken out of context and people who say things about celebrities such as they are "No longer good looking" or "They never were good looking," or things of that nature, are just crazies, (like Mark David Chapman was) and they are also malcontents who have lots of frustrations in their lives and they make comments on the internet about this or that person being disappointing because of all things, this or that person's "un-attractiveness."

You were possibly Danny's age at the time, or approximately (just like me).

You mention David Cassidy's real name and say "That red headed kid brother of his." Of course it would be more appropriate to say "Keith Partridge's red-headed kid brother."
When the series was in its infancy, Danny Bonaduce was a very little boy who seemed to be about 8 years old. In retrospect, he reminds me very much of Johnny Whittaker (Family Affair). Of course Danny Bonaduce must have just looked a bit younger than he actually was because he was about 10 or even closer to 11 when the series began (but also, the camera could make him look that way). However, when the show got into maybe the third season, Danny really grew physically. His little boy physique became more burly. Since I was roughly his age he seemed to have really put on weight and seemed to be in his mid teens. I thought it was odd that Shirley Partridge only ever spanked Danny of all her children and he seemed to be 15 at the time.
I wondered how the show's producers did not replace Danny as he was growing although his character was still a wise-cracking preteen. I guess
he had become one of the stars of the show by the time.

Only now that I am grown myself and I look at the old re-runs of the show do I see that he does not look as heavy as he did when I was watching the show back in the 70s , and he definitely does not seem to be in his mid teens when he was actually about 12 . I guess when you are that age and look at someone else who is roughly the same age, that person may seem older and/or his/her appearance may look different to you than what an adult may see. I guess it had to do with the fact that when I was exiting my adolescent age and entering my teens I felt much older than what I may have appeared to others. Of course at that age, you compare yourself to having had been a baby and toddler and preschooler, generally. What else?

It is a risk for TV shows to cast very young children since after a season or two , they can grow much taller or begin to look very different than what is planned for his/her character.
Some child actors have been replaced in TV series when they began to grow or look older or different. One I can think of now, is the actor who played "Philip" in "Maude." I recall reading that he was replaced after he began to "outgrow the role." However the kid who replaced him looked significantly heavier even though he had a certain resemblance to the previous actor.

I also recall that "Hal" in "Nanny and The Professor" grew much taller after about a season but he was still kept in the role and I recall one scene in an episode was created so as to mention his growth spurt; An elderly man at a store check-out counter told Hal that he looks 18 years already, and Hal says that he just turned 13.

But also, I thought that Danny Partridge began to look funnier as he got older. During the very last season his red hair had already grown so as to stick out more at the sides. His hairstyle (and hair color) remind me of that of Bozo the Clown's .

Um,

I'm not saying that Mr. Cassidy's birth family always treated him fairly nor that he didn't suffer from obsessive/unhinged 'fans'. However; it's a matter of public record that he did not always treat his own family fairly [e.g. terming the companion whom was found drunk with him while he was driving his 'fiancee' when he hadn't yet divorced his wife] and what about those times he blew off fans who prepaid to line up for his autograph or hear him sing without apology, etc.? Did any of the above deserve being treated this way despite being in no way connected to those who HAD done him wrong?

There's NO ONE in this world who doesn't have some flaws and faults but, surely after seeing the damage done by entertainment and sport icons, one must realize that if one treats someone as though they can do no wrong, they often use that as license TO do wrong.
