View Full Version : Artist/Band with the most annoying fanbase
Dean Winchester 09-12-2005, 12:36 AM don't get personal on this on as a preface, and you can vote for more than one
Earlier, myself and PlatinumBlonde were talking about how obsessive and annoying the lambs (Mariah Carey's fanatics) are. So it leads me to wonder, who would most people say have the worst die-hard fanbases. I will only cover pop, r&b and rock here because I don't know as much about hip hop or country.
This is not a diss to the artist, and many of these I don't agree with, but I will use the typical excuses of fan attitudes that might turn people off
The options will be.... (with an example of something an "annoying die hard fan would say" as a reason). This is not about the music but the fans
Avril Lavigne : reason "Avril's like the queen of punk. Joan Jett is like an old hag"
(any) boyband : reason "they're the greatest group ever because ______ is cute, he's so much cuter than any of those old ugly singers"
Dave Matthews Band : reason "uh huh huh huh, I'm like so cool because I listen to Dave Matthews, huh huh huh"
Elvis : "he's the king and nobody will ever touch him"
(any) Emo band : reason "you just don't realize how deep they are"
fans of any popular recording artist who were into them PRE-MTV : reason "you're not a real fan you poseur, I was into them when they did (fill in the blank pre-mainstream album)"
Janet Jackson : reason "if you don't like one of the interludes on All For You, you're not a fan and the twenty years since Control means nothing because you don't think every last thing she does is holy"
KISS : reason "your band doesn't sell concert tickets the way KISS does"
Mariah Carey : reason "she is better than God because of all her #1 hits. Everyone who isn't her sucks"
Madonna : reason "no other female artist will ever be as innovative"
Michael Jackson : reason "he's the King Of Pop and Thriller sold more records than you'll ever be able to count and you're just jealous of him when you badmouth him, :racist: if you criticize him for sleeping with kids"
Paris Hilton (well, she's trying to sing) : reason "you're just a hater because you wish you had her money"
Ruben Studdard : reason "I hate Clay Aiken for having more success than Ruben, Ruben's the American Idol for crying out loud"
The Beatles : reason "nobody will ever be better... I'll never give another artist a chance because they won't compare"
The Stones : reason "Beatles fans need to get over themselves, at least The Stones are still together" (yes, I've seen this on AOL)
Whitney Houston : reason "Whitney's my down home homegirl, you're just hating when you say she's on drugs, she's saner than you"
keep in mind, I like quite a few of these artists, but we're not talking about them, but the fans and the Christ-like pedestals they put them on.
platinumblondelife 09-12-2005, 12:47 AM  I never hear any Ruben say anything about Clay really. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Mariah Carey, but I hate some of her fans, if that makes sense...the ones who constantly talk about other celebrities (Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, etc) I voted for Mariah. ...Oh the Michael Jackson fans are just scary lol...I would have voted for him too but it's too late...
Dean Winchester 09-12-2005, 12:51 AM I voted for Mariah because, like Platinum stated, her fans are so psychotically obsessed with her it's unhealthy. Buying 40 copies of a mp3 on itunes so she can stay at #1 is just bad. I mean, buy Prince's single for 99 cents instead, at least you're going to be listening to something you don't have on 8 cd's already and the money will be going for a good cause instead of fattening Mariah's checkbook.
I also voted MJ because his fans can get pretty possessed too.
But another group that really gets under my skin are the people who were into bands before they took off in popularity and then have this superiority complex to someone who might've not discovered them until MTV/VH1 or radio or whatever. Be happy your fave is gaining more fans instead of acting like you're God because you were there first.
Ireneparalegal 09-12-2005, 12:52 AM I am going to mention someone who is not mentioned:
Jennifer Lopez AKA JHO JHO JHO JHO
Was that clear enough????? LOL
Her fans and fanbase etc. are pathetic. Just like her. I can't stand her. I can't wait for her career to to go down the tubes. I can't wait for people to realize she can't sing. I just want her to go away. Is that tooooo much to ask????
LOL

oh, Ruben fans had a real axe to grind with Clay back in 2003 when their singles came out the same week and Clay went to #1 instead.

well, most Jennifer Lopez fans I know realize she is not a good singer. There's never the fanaticism about her from her fans the way you'll see Mariah, Madonna, Celine, Whitney, Janet... over their faves. I've never seen a J. Lo fan get insanely possessed over her, so that's why I didn't add her.
Dean Winchester 09-12-2005, 12:58 AM I also love love love Janet, but I voted for her diehards too, even tho they're not as prevalent. But the ones I've encountered are really ultra-defensive. In their eyes, if you don't worship every last thing she did, you're as good as someone sending her hate mail. The two big "Janet Queens" I encountered before told me because I was a bigger Madonna fan, that I had absolutely no right to call myself a Janet fan because I felt that the ALL FOR YOU cd was below par for an artist of her calibre.
ABlairican Pie 09-12-2005, 01:44 AM I've been checking out the Pantera and Ozzfest message boards, and there just seem to be too many racist and anti-Semitic characters on the boards.
And people wonder why metal was shafted back in the early 90's. ohno:
I voted for The Beatles. Many of their fans seem to automatically assume that everyone agrees with them in that they are "the greatest band ever." Hell to the no. They are not. Not in my opinion, at least.
Dean Winchester 09-12-2005, 04:52 PM I voted for The Beatles. Many of their fans seem to automatically assume that everyone agrees with them in that they are "the greatest band ever." Hell to the no. They are not. Not in my opinion, at least.
I personally like the solo works of McCartney, Lennon and Harrison more than The Beatles. I don't know what it is but I just am not a fan of 1960's music, I much prefer 70's Stones to 60's Stones too, I would much rather listen to "Some Girls" than their Allen Klein owned recordings, same with people like Diana Ross, The Who, Cher, Tina Turner, Streisand and others who were around back in the days of black and white television. Simon And Garfunkel is the one exception, I'd much rather listen to them than solo Paul Simon.
EmoJoe 09-12-2005, 05:49 PM I voted Kiss, Mariah Carey, and Ruben. Im probably the only one who voted Ruben cause no one else here goes to Idolforums and sees all the Ruben fans who think Ruben is the best thing to ever happen to the world.
Hollow 09-12-2005, 06:12 PM I voted for The Beatles. Many of their fans seem to automatically assume that everyone agrees with them in that they are "the greatest band ever." Hell to the no. They are not. Not in my opinion, at least.
god i know. and god forbid you ever say anything negative about them, or that a new artist is better than them, or else you'll get laughed at and be accused of not knowing what real music is. i know not all beatles fans are like that of course but many of them whom i've encountered are.
The Chauffeur 09-12-2005, 06:42 PM Most fanbases are annoying, especially now there are far too many to name. Really, how sad is it to see someone neglect their own lives just to give most if not all of their energy to someone they'll never know? I have to say, it does make my stomach crawl when someone says anything like, "Avril is the 'Queen of Punk' , Joan Jett is an old hag" not because i like Joan Jett (not a fangirl, so don't even make me out to be) but because Joan Jett earned her place in punk whereas Avril Lavigne has barely cut her teeth (actually I'm waiting to hear anything in her music that remotely sounds like punk, but that's beside the point) My best friend's dad ( my second dad) was a huge music buff when I was young, he taught us that you can't respect music till you respect it's roots. But that's just me :p
avril lavign fans are sooo annoying they actually think shes punk or something-same with ashlee simpson.
paris hilton fans bug me too

There are artists that I don't like. :)

Ah
Every time a Madonna fan tells me about how she "re-invents" herself with every new album, I die a little inside.

Penny Lane 09-12-2005, 08:41 PM I don't want to condemn anybody for their likes and dislikes. We all have our own opinions! You all know who my preference is! Everybody has their favorites and I will not belittle anybody . Besides The awesome Beatles I love B B King, Frank Sinatra,John Lee Hooker, Three Dog Night, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Guess Who and The Doobie Brothers. I also really really like Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass. So I like all kinds of music! What you like is cool with me!
Penny Lane 09-12-2005, 08:45 PM I agree with that, I never really cared for The Beatles.
So I am curious.......... Who do you consider the greatest band ever? This should be interesting.

no offense, but this is exactly the type of behavior that led to the inclusion of Beatle fans on the list. If you don't find Beatlemania comparable to the second coming, some Beatles fans act like there's something wrong with you.

 Ok who do YOU consider the best band ever who will mean something in history 100 years from now? Yes, I am a fanatic when it comes to The Beatles. So sue me!
Tuesday Weld 09-12-2005, 09:28 PM So I am curious.......... Who do you consider the greatest band ever? This should be interesting.
I hadn't really thought about it and I don't think I have a "greatest" band, I like many different artists. :)
Green day fans are getting on my nerves they act like you cant like their new stuff- you can only like their old stuff to be a fan and everyone is a poser
crystals 09-12-2005, 10:33 PM I voted Beatles and boy bands. Those screaming girls you see at concerts. Whether it's the Beatles, or 'NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys, etc, etc. They are so annoying. I remember going to a Moffat's concert a few years ago. I like their music and there were a lot of young girls there and they were screaming so loud that you could hardly hear the guys singing. It's pathetic.
Belair 09-12-2005, 10:36 PM Can someone please explain to me why Mariah Carey's fans are "lambs?"
Dean Winchester 09-12-2005, 10:43 PM Can someone please explain to me why Mariah Carey's fans are "lambs?"
awhile back, she called her fans "lambs" in an interview, and they adopted it for themselves... However, I don't think they realize that "sheep" is not a positive connotation, but considering the way some lambs will buy 20 copies of her cd to keep sales high, the terminology makes sense.
Dean Winchester 09-12-2005, 11:16 PM  Ok who do YOU consider the best band ever who will mean something in history 100 years from now? Yes, I am a fanatic when it comes to The Beatles. So sue me!
well, I agree that The Beatles have made one of the biggest impacts in music and are definately legends. I would much rather listen to solo Paul McCartney anyday, I just am not a 60's fan, I'd much prefer listening to "Band On The Run", "Back To The Egg" or "McCartney 2" over the best Beatles title, because I just am a bigger fan of that era than the 60's. But still... everyone has the right to their own opinion, if someone doesn't consider them the greatest thing in the world, it's their prerogative. All Musicrocksmyworld said was that she doesn't particularly like them and people jumped on her case as if she went to church during a service and blurted out "I don't believe in God". Now if Music ripped on them, then that's another story, but all she did was say that she doesn't think The Beatles are the best.

Well, to tell the truth, I prefer listening to Paul also!
Only because I am madly in love with him!
Janice 09-13-2005, 11:00 AM I voted for the Beatles. Some fans, and I stress some, have no tolerance for people who don't love the Beatles, as if it's a natural law that everyone has to be a fan. I don't love the Beatles. I love some of their songs, but I just don't love the band overall.

OH YEAH?!!!
Well what the hell do you know??
Damn you and your crappy musical tast----and I'm just kidding. I definitely see where you are coming from.
I am a huge Beatles fan and I have friends who are huge Beatles fans and are adamant about them being the greatest and cannot stand anyone who doesn't think so. At the least they don't take others musical tastes seriously if they don't agree.
One friend during a party, when Beatles music was playing, declared outloud, "I will fight any man in this room who says The Beatles aren't the best band ever!"
Of course he was kidding and half drunk, but you get the idea.
Hollow 09-13-2005, 08:14 PM Can someone please explain to me why Mariah Carey's fans are "lambs?"
because she's a shepherd. :grr:
TheGreatPretender 09-13-2005, 09:53 PM I have to admit some Beatles fans are pretty annoying. I liked The Beatles but I didn't find anything "breath taking" about them.
And us Queen fans can be pretty irritating too. :p
Steve M. 09-14-2005, 09:03 PM I voted for Kiss, Michael Jackson, and Madonna fans because they do not tolerate anyone who doesn't like them and try to get detractors to shut up. They're almost as bad as Rush Limbaugh's dittoheads!
Some of you younger folks may have to ask your parents about the "deadheads," the tie dyed legion of hippies who worshiped the Greatful Dead and followed them around the country.

MaydayMalonesGirl 09-18-2005, 12:05 PM My Chemical Romance has a pretty horrible fanbase, atleast at my school. I voted for emo fans. Ugh. I listen to some bands that may be considered emo, but I don't act all emo-ish or whatever the correct terminology would be to describe those kinds of people. Oh, and Victory Record fans. Those commercials make me want to fling myself off of something.
Dean Winchester 09-18-2005, 01:48 PM wow. Mariah was the queen of the thread at first, but now MJ and The Beatles have surpassed her. I suppose it's fitting, we haven't yet learned that Mariah fans would still stick by her if she went on trial for pedophilia, and I'd say Beatles fans are even less tolerant of people who don't see them as religious as Mariah fans (I know some want to disagree, but look at the voting results, apparently a lot of people feel that Beatles fans act that way), someone said Madonna, MJ and KISS fans aren't tolerant of non-fans, I'd say Beatles fans make those look openminded and accepting to "haters" (like when I got called a hater for standing up and agreeing with the people who think Beatle fans are a little overly obsessed, excuse me but I actually do like the latter Beatles work).
Mr. Cranky 09-18-2005, 04:36 PM The Beatles. I love them myself, but I have friends who are downright obnoxious about them. Yeah, yeah, they walked water. I heard ya the first time.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 09-18-2005, 05:07 PM Dave freaking Matthews Band. "Hey, lets all get drunk and go to a Dave show." Oh my god.
And DEFINITELY "fans of any popular recording artist who were into them PRE-MTV." Well not all of them...just the irritating ones who stop liking said band because they're no longer "indie" or "scene." Drives me up a ****ing wall.
That being said, I kind of feel like a hypocrite here, but I can't stand My Chemical Romance fans who think they're so hArDcOrE pUnK rAwK because they listen to a band that wears eyeliner.

SBTB Geek 09-19-2005, 02:12 AM Mariah's "lambs" and Michael's fans are from another planet!
I like them both, but some people see them as gods.
MissZero 09-19-2005, 04:17 PM I voted for The Beatles. Many of their fans seem to automatically assume that everyone agrees with them in that they are "the greatest band ever." Hell to the no. They are not. Not in my opinion, at least.

that can be said seriously. oh my god. why don't you just go replace the faces on mt. rushmore with the beatles. i don't hate the beatles, i like some of their songs but some of the fans can really irritate the hell out of me.
Karen* 09-19-2005, 11:40 PM I dislike teenyboppers, AKA people who counter Britney Spears and 'N Sync haters with the ever-so-popular "You're just jealous." I mean, most of my favorite artists are pop artists, but I don't go that far with sticking up for my opinions.

lol, I got the jealous thing over Paris Hilton once in here. Yea, she's rich, but she is completely lacking in class and morals and probably has STD's that aren't even pronouncable, what's to be jealous of?
snl 70s show fan 09-23-2005, 02:12 AM i voted for elvis and i have to stress that im an elvis fan and can actullay remember when he was still alive but some of his fans are downright hostile if you dont say that every song he sang was some great masterpiece and you dont dare try to tell them the real facts of how his carrer was going at the time of hiis death. wich truth be told was not so hot. he was reduced to playing in small towns because his unreliabablaty as a prefomer had made him somewhat of a risk to book him plus his shows were getting worse and worse. and as for chart action his last 2 singles way down and moody blue were modorate scucess at best he was being overshadowed by the new wave of artist on fm radio like peter frampton blue oyster cult and fleetwood mac its all true but if you try to tell people this they wont listen. im not saying any one of the preformers i listed are better then elvis i think elvis stands alone as a prefomer but there dont seem to be many fans around who like me can enjoy his music and still not think everything he touched turned to gold.
TheGreatPretender 09-23-2005, 11:49 AM Aaaaaaaagh I forgot about the cursed hell sent emo fans. I HATE that word. Emo it sounds like emu. Several of my class mates are emo fans. What really really offends me about the whole "emo" thing is that I'm always hearing "emo people cut their wrists and are depressed". Like self mutilation is a trend and is based on the music you listen to.
platinumblondelife 09-24-2005, 12:39 PM a lot of ppl like him here but oh well, a lot (not all) of clay aiken fans are crazy/weird
PrettyinPink55 09-24-2005, 09:10 PM Jesse McCartney fans really irritate me. Although I like him myself, I'm not crazy about him. Some of those fans are VERY obssessed!
Number 9 Dream 12-19-2005, 03:06 PM Speaking from the perspective as one of those "crazy Beatles fans", I can definately see where people would get annoyed. I guess we let our high opinion of the lads get in the way sometimes ;) Truthfully, though, I consider myself more open-minded than a lot of the Beatles fans I've met at Beatlefests, internet, etc. I do give chances to other bands as well (and love them!) but no one will ever compare to the Beatles, IMO.
One thing I've noticed in various Beatles communities I belong to is that a whole new wave of teenaged girls are HEAVILY OBSESSED with the fab four. I'm talking about like the fanaticism that was rampant in the early 60's when they first arrived here. I love to see new fans of any sort, though, but I thought I'd just point that out :D Apparently unhealthy obsession is alive and well! :)
seventies_sitcoms 12-19-2005, 04:19 PM lol, does the eyeliner thing apply to Culture Club, Dead Or Alive and Visage as well?

Good Charlotte still has fans? Their last cd was such a disapointment, the biggest kick in the stomach was that GC were coming off a huge album and people thought they had a lot of momentum left over, yet Green Day came back at the same time and swiftly kicked Good Charlotte's butts big time, when I think originally people thought GC would do better than GD since it'd been a really long time since GD's last big hit before.
Dr. Thong 12-19-2005, 08:02 PM Paris Hilton. Why is this chickie so worshipped??
SHE - HASN'T - DONE - ANYTHING.
All of the other names on the list, whether you like them or not, at least earned whatever successes they've had. I can't figure out for the life of me why The Paris Hilton is the object of such obsessive, slavish worship: She has no personality, no ambition and no pilot light on. ¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 12-20-2005, 02:26 PM ... Ruben has fans? I wouldnt say Claymates are the most annoying fanbase, but I would say they are the most obsessive. Its one thing to be obsessed with him and be a younger fan, but when youre pushing 50 and discuss some of the things lil 14 year olds would about him its just weird. On the positive, he has the best fanbase when it comes to helping others and being friendly and supportive. His are the only concerts I can go to and feel like I can talk to anyone else around me- any other concert Id go to I feel alone and people just dont look as friendly. His fans are amazing when it comes to supporting him in everything he does which is great, but his fans are a little off their rocker. If you browse The ClayBoard (http://p071.ezboard.com/ftheclayboardfrm11), its amazing some of the topics youll find. Most fans are pretty cool, but some are just so obsessive when it comes to putting him on a pedestal. I have the habit of doing that too sometimes though, but most fans of artist you like do that. People make threads about every little insult a late night host made that night [they HATE Conan :crying:], while I find it amusing. Its just weird how this is how they spend the majority of their time - as ADULTS. My mother is a huge fan as well but hates computers and doesnt get how a grown woman can talk about Clays freckles all day on a messageboard.
Number 9 Dream 12-20-2005, 09:53 PM I do think a lot of people put their all-time favorite bands on pedastals, though--some are just worse than others, I suppose :)
dawsongirl 12-21-2005, 05:51 PM I voted for boybands, Mariah, and Paris Hilton. Boybands because all their fans are there pre-pubesent freaky little girls who scream and drool and a bunch of other annoying ****. I can't stand teenies.
Mariah and Paris, IMO (I'll piss someone off, I know), who in their right mind would idolize people like that? Prissy, overly-sexed up Barbie wannabes who can't drink out of their own cups, or became famous because of their name and some nasty sex tape. There are so many more deserving people out there to worship...don't pick two trollups.
And as for Michael Jackson fans...WTF is wrong with you people?? Seriously, all those loonies who stood outside his courtroom and held signs supporting him and crap need a heavy dose of psychiatric meds. I got no time for people who worship the worthless.
dawsongirl 12-21-2005, 06:03 PM and probably has STD's that aren't even pronouncable

you better watch it, some teenybopper will accuse you of being jealous
the folk song that they played at the end of the Paris Hilton episode of South Park says it all.... "Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton, stupid whore".
