Only contact Lifetime. As I recently mentioned in another thread, a member of this board who goes by the username MysterySolver, who claimed to be an employee of the show's studio Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, once said that you should only contact Lifetime, NOT the show or its studio. Lifetime (not Cosgrove-Meurer Produstions) chose not to commission any more episodes. As long as the network stands by that decision, the people at UM can do nothing restart the show.

There are addresses where you can write to Lifetime. They are at the main page of this site. Go to the main page, scroll down until you see the addresses mentioned.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, physical letters carry far more weight than emails. Sending countless emails until their computer crashes won't do much good. Besides, emails can be deleted too easily, making it easier for recipient to forget (or deny) that the email ever existed. But a large pile of letters is much tougher to ignore.

speaking from experience, interns read emails and you'd be surprised how many come into a show each day, let alone a network. They're mostly thrown away or put in a security pile for people who think they must write several times per day. I agree on the snail mail. Regardless, I don't think lifetime will commission any new episodes. They should do a show that is similar though. America's Most Wanted's budget has to be really small, other than what they spend on graphics. I've seen shots they throw in the show where Walsh is being shot with a DV camera. Some of these can look great, but you can still tell it's DV. Hopefully soon there will be a channel that is strictly dedicated to crime watch.

It's interesting because I was watching Lifetime the other day and there was a commercial for this new Golden Girls show. It said something like, "Thousands of our viewers requested it, and we're going to give it to you!" So thousands of people either e-mailed, wrote to, or called Lifetime and requested that they show this new Golden Girls series and they listened. So if there were thousands that did the same thing for Unsolved Mysteries, who knows what would happen.

I would love to get it going again, but who would replace Robert Stack?

The way I look at it, our best hope would be that if someday they created a channel devoted to non-fiction programming (a la Lifetime's spin-off channel Lifetime Real Women). Such an ideal channel would be one that truly supports law enforcement enough to support a show like UM. They wouldn't have to have that type of a show 24/7, but they would have to understand the importance of the show.

Part of the show's message is the healthy desire to support law enforcement. That message was part of the reason for the success of UM. Besides, as Robert Stack said in Parade magazine in 1996: "As a matter of national survival, we need to do the best we can to sponsor the good guys, and to do something active about bringing down the bad guys."

Unfortunately, however, too many network executives don't seem to care. In fact, there are show business people of today (producers, actors, TV executives, etc.) who are so backward that they wouldn't mind glorifying the sickos and vilifiyng the heroes for the sake of ratings. :mad:
