View Full Version : I got a new digital camera today and there's a picture on it that I didn't take!
TheHappyBurgerMeister 09-09-2005, 12:53 AM I bought a new digital camera today from Office Depot. I came home opened it up and took 2 pictures. Pretty cool camera. Well, I just decided to plug in the USB cord and upload the pictures I took so far to see what they look like on the computer. Well, I noticed there was a THIRD picture that I totally did NOT take! I'll post the picture at the end of this post. Well, also when I bought it the tape on the box was kind of broken. I didn't really think much of it. Well, now I see this picture. The weird thing is the picture DIDN'T show up on the camera on the slideshow when you can review the pics, but then it does show up when I upload them.
It KIND of looks like the picture was taken accidently just because it's not perfectly aligned. But the person obviously didn't accidently take it out of the box! I'm going to call tomorrow and talk to a manager and also save that picture to show them! The people in those pictures in the picture kind of look like office depot workers.
I might need to end up get a new one to replace it. I hope I just find out who or why someone would take it out of the box!
TheHappyBurgerMeister 09-09-2005, 12:59 AM Hmm, for some reason I can't post the picture. It says I need jpg, bmp, gif etc. files and it IS a JPG file. Oh, well just click on this link:

Chelsea 09-09-2005, 01:12 AM The camera is probably a return. Someone bought it, took a picture, wasn't happy, and returned it. The store, not wanting extra stuff lying around, probably just repaired anything that might've been wrong with the camera, assuming it wasn't just an "unsatisfied customer" return....and didn't delete the photo.

Yeah, my friend said to me before that it could be a return and that companies do that all the time where people return stuff and they just put it back on the shelf. To me that's just plain laziness to put it back on the shelf! Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow what's up.
TripperFan 09-09-2005, 08:51 AM Actually, it looks like it probably was a demo. The pic was obviously taken in the store.
I'd pack it all up and march it right back to the store and demand an unopened one. Don't erase that pic - its proof that it was taken in the store and previously "used". They should replace it without a problem.

I agree, that is deffinately a demo
MsOrange 09-09-2005, 12:13 PM it would have been really funny if it was a dirty photo

lol, yeah, when I told my mom that there was a picture on their I didn't take, she was like "Is it porn?!".
TheHappyBurgerMeister 09-10-2005, 12:29 AM Well, good news! This morning I got up and immediately called the store and asked to speak to the manager. I explained the situation and he said that possibly an employee might have taken it out of the box to show a customer and then it somehow got back on the shelf. He said that it shouldn't have been put back on the shelf then and he was very sorry. I didn't even need to beg or anything to ask to exchange it, he said he'd be glad to give me a new UNOPENED one. The nice thing was I didn't have to exchange EVERYTHING. I just brought in the camera and the batteries and they opened a new box (in front of me so I saw it was being opened for the first time) and gave me the new camera. The new one was in plastic wrap and so were the batteries and the one I bought yesterday WASN'T! For some reason I didn't think anything of it or even notice it when I opened it.
I didn't need to bring the picture that I didn't take. I had it all ready in case I needed to bring it to show, but the manager believed me and now I have my new camera (NEVER used by anyone else!) :)

Good for you. Glad to hear that. I like when a store does something like that. They take your word for it without hesitation. No questions, no third degree. You should send an email to the company and/or manager and let them know abt how satisfied you were. I like to do that so they know they do a good job. If they don't hear from consumers, they will think "why should i do anything nice". Have fun with new camera!!!!
