Today,I saw the pilot episode of "The Partridge Family" called "What? And Get Out Of Showbusiness?",and I got a few questions I want to know about it:

Why does Jeremy have Brian's drum set?

When Shirley mentions a celebrity to Chris &
Tracy,why do they say "Who?" every time?

What happened to the unaired version of the pilot?

I really want to know about this NOW!

I can't answer everything, but I do have the answer to a few of these.

This was a running gag during the first season to illustrate the generation gap between Shirley and the kids. She'd mention some celebrity to the kids, like "I'm no (insert old-time singer here)." The kids would say "Who?" and she correct herself with a celebrity the kids would recognize. "Annette Funicello?"

It has never aired. The version that was broadcast is simply a edited version of the original pilot. I remember reading that the biggest difference is in the "tag" scene, which shows them back in their house after playing Caesar's Palace. In some narration, Shirley mentions that she found a new boyfriend. When they shift back to the house, the boyfriend is shown, and is played by Jack Cassidy, Shirley Jones' real-life husband at the time. Also, Mrs. Partridge is called "Connie" rather than "Shirley". Notice that they never call her by name in the broadcast version of the pilot, because they cut out all the references to "Connie".

The version that they aired in syndication in the 90s and on Nick-at-Nite was even further edited from the original broadcast version. They completely cut out the pre-credits opening scene of the Partridges arriving in Hollywood, the Johnny Cash introduction, and the original opening theme ("Together/Having a Ball") and credits. Instead, they use the regular opening credits, and start with Shirley explaining how they got into show business ("My husband had died suddenly six months earlier..."). I don't know how Fox Family recently aired it. If you only saw the butchered version, you can get the original broadcast version on VHS.

If the 1st season of "The Partridge Family" comes out,show the bloopers from the series. They always make me laugh!

Yes, I have seen the original first episode of The Partridge Family when it was on Fox Family back in 2000 and I didn't even know those opening credits existed. Beforehand,when I saw the first episode in syndication prior to that,I saw just the opening credits of the first season and then Shirley saying the only other time she took bows was to put on a roast and explaining how they got started.

I also found the original first episode on VHS at a flea market for a dollar which contains the first episode,the one where Laurie gets braces,and the last episode where Shirley is reunited with her high school sweetheart who happens to be an admiral.
