me not having any pictures on my wall inside MY office?-lol He came in here this morning and said I would like you to spruce up your office a bit, and get some pictures on the wall. I was a little annoyed(but did not show it) because I feel as long as I'm producing and doing my job to the best of my ability, does it really matter if I have a office with no pictures on the wall?

I don't think it matters if you have no pictures in your office or not, it doesn't effect you job performance.

Yes, it does not matter. It's YOUR cubicle/space, so it's ultimately YOUR decision. I mean, really... Those are individual spaces for each worker. You ARE doing your job, and it has NO effect on your job performance. It sounds like your boss is being nit-picky by controlling the employees' areas.

Instructors and administrative people at my job are all decorated differently. Some people have pictures while others have calendars while others have kids' artwork. I don't think it should matter as long as it's not offensive/innappropriate in the workplace. I think it's just nice how everyone customizes differently. It shows off each individual's personality. Would be boring if everyone all had the same style....

That is weird to say the least. Although, I will say, it is much better for him to care what your office looks like than him to say, "Don't bother to put anything on your walls." That to me is a sure sign that you are not long for that job. lol

MAYBE he is getting concerned that you arent showing any signs of attachment - he might be wondering if you are planning on sticking around or just waiting until a better offer comes along.

I say you put up pictures of HIS family on your wall.

Someone at my office just told me that he asked "Is Solomon planning on leaving? because his office is so bare" So that's what it was Brian, i looked like I had no intentions on sticking around.

I would do this if I were you!!!!! Then that will be a great opportunity to bring up this question TO HIM. Seems Soloman, you are taking this way too personal, way more than your boss.
Chill, put up some hot girl pics and see what he says.

i read in psychology today how people with more decorated cubicles show more attachment and dedication to their jobs. i don't really believe that's true but that could be where he's coming from.

Honestly I thought women were the ones who wanted to hang pictures of their family and decorate their workspace.

I want an office or a cubicle so I can put a TV in there. Pass time quicker. :D Pictures are nice and all, but moving pictures with sound are so much more relaxing.

I think the more comfortable you are at work the better you work.
Psychologically.
People who have bad days, and can come back to their office, unwind, look at a funny picture, or a fmaily picture- will tend to calm down, faster than those ina sterile environment, in my findings.

Now as far as a tv goes, some offices allow music- when I did work at my last office I could have head phones-
tv, people tend to THINK is more distracting than music, I don't find that to be true.
as long as your work productivity doen'st decrease and you keep it on headphones, I don't see why a complaint-
Then again, I am sure some peopel took advantage of it, and had a horror movie or something like porn. and ruined it for everyone.

But my "cubical" is warm and friendly with a candle I snif when I get stressed, and a happy ducky picture, and a few odds and ends--(plus my sneaky hidden stask of skittles.

Keeps me from killing people sometimes!

You should do something different. Seriously, i'm not joking, but you should put up pictures of some of the tv shows you collect, if you have any of them.
