I am sure that this has been asked a b-jillion times, but I didn't see it...
I gotta know! When did he get the nick-name? Did Wally give it to him? Did June look down and say, Beaver. Did Ward think he had buck teeth when he was four? Did anyone on the show ever question these things? Strangely enough, I don't remember it being addressed.

Wally couldn't pronouce Theodore and called him 'Tweever.' Tweever developed into Beaver. This explanation was given in the last episode, Family Scrapbook.

In the first episode "Beaver Gets Spelled", Beaver tells Miss Canfield Wally gave him his nickname. But it isn't until the LAST episode "Family Scrapbook" that we learn why -- Wally pronounced his baby brother's name as "Tweeder" or "Tweeter" or "Tweever" and June and Ward refined the name to "Beaver." The writers thought Beaver suggested a perky, toothy, happy go lucky little kid.
