That was Rachel Runyan. She was actually three years old when she was murdered in 1982. Her murder was suspected to have been part of a satanic cult, but, from what I recall, there was no hard evidence to support that theory.

That episode was indeed very spooky, especially the part where they found the writing on the bathroom stall in the rest stop. It was something to the effect of, "Beware I'm still at large. I killed the little Runyan girl." Then had some satanic symbols. That was probably just some weirdo looking for a cheap thrill who had nothing to do with her death.
Very sad and disturbing case.

I just saw the episode containing the Rachel Runyon story, and although it was a rather short segment, it was unquestionably one of the most disturbing cases I've ever watched on Unsolved Mysteries. I have two beautiful young daughters, and by the time this account was over I was almost nauseated at the thought that ghouls who kidnap little girls to make "snuff films" really do exist. I can't even imagine the horrors that precious little angel was forced to endure at the hands of the devil(s) who abducted her.
Anyway, if anyone has any (hopefully positive) updates regarding this heartbreaking story, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing them.

You know I am not so sure it was a satanic thing. I do think that whoever put up the message was either a hoax or if it was the killer they were trying to throw off the cops by making them think it was a satanic cult that did it.

The snuff angle was overplayed as it always is- we had a case over here where a boy was murdered by a notorious Paedophile gang led by Sydney Cooke and a tabloid here basically invented a story that it was all captured on film when that was totally untrue- this was not the only thing like this they invented also the Ng/Lake California killings are still reported on as the murders being filmed but this was not the case- they did film a lot of stuff but no actual killings, the media will print people's worst nightmares even when the crimes are horrific enough in fact
