JASON LEWIS ("SEX AND THE CITY") & KALEY CUOCO ("8 SIMPLE RULES") JOIN THE CAST - Presumed dead, the Charmed sisters start their demon-free existence with new identities brought about by a spell that altered their appearances to the outside world, but not to those closest to them. Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), excited to start her new life, is surprised to see Dex Lawson (Jason Lewis), a gorgeous artist she barely knew, at her funeral and even more surprised when she has a premonition that she will marry him. Now able to have a normal family life, Piper (Holly Marie Combs) remains paranoid that the demons will find out the sisters are still alive. Attending her funeral disguised as supermodel Janice Dickinson (guest starring as herself), Paige (Rose McGowan) realizes that she spent too much time in the magic world, yet soon figures out that she can't escape her Whitelighter instincts and answers a call of a new charge - a young witch named Billie (Kaley Cuoco).
James L. Conway directed the episode written by Brad Kern.

I think I'm joining my friend Christine this season and will let "Something Wicca This Way Goes" be my last new episode. The show has been in decline for quite some time and from the spoilers I've heard, as well as the fact they're turning it into a teen vehicle with Kaley Cuoco means it's probably time I give up on Charmed for good and keep the memory of what the show once was alive. The only thing they can do to win many of us back is to have Prue return ala Grams and Mom just once.

What did everyone think of the episode?

I loved the season premiere. The Charmed ones looked great as usual, and I think Kaley Cuoco is going to be a great addition. She sort of reminded like a Wonder Woman type character.

I thought it rocked, though Kaley was only in parts of the episode-maybe next week she'll be in more episodes! :)

I watched the last half, so I am wondering if this is explained in the first half. The girls look different to everyone else correct? In TV Guide I read they didn't have powers and they were going to have to earn them back, so how are they able to still keep the spell on their appearances going? Since the underworld knows they are alive, I hope they go back in time and change all of this so they can drop the appearance spell and having everyone think they died.

Season eight of Charmed opened to rather bad numbers compared to what we've seen over the years, however considering the competition it's not all too bad. According to Mediaweek.com "Still Charmed & Kicking" averaged a 3.4/ 5 in the overnights and 3.98 mil. viewers. These are overnight ratings, the Final Total Viewers will come out tomorrow, expect the numbers to be slightly over the four million mark.
Worth positively noting is that Charmed remains the most-watched show on TheWB's Big Sunday. Charmed built by 88.62% or 1.87 mil viewers from lead-in Reba and was 32.66% or 1.3 mil viewers above lead-out Blue Collar TV.

Please let us know what the final total viewers was for the premiere. I would love to know what the actual numbers were.

Thanks.

I am sorry that it took me so long to post this but here they are, the final ratings for the season premiere. As you could already read in the comments to the previous post, the season premiere did slightly better than it was previosuly reported. 4,270,000 Americans watched 'Still Charmed & Kicking'. Charmed was the most watched program on TheWB Sunday, besting Reba: Beginnings (2,470,000 & 1,910,000) and the season premiere and a repeat of Blue Collar TV (2,530,000 & 2,330,000).

Here are the results for all WB shows:

#1 Gilmore Girls 5,710,000
#2 7th Heaven 5,420,000 (season premiere)
#3 Supernatural 5,010,000
#4 Charmed 4,270,000 (season premiere)
#5 Reba 3,880,000
#6 Just Legal 3,440,000 (series premiere)
#7 Living with Fran 3,210,000
#8 Smallville 2,870,000 (repeat)
#9 Blue Collar TV 2,530,000 (season premiere)
#10 Twins 2,490,000
#11 Reba-Beg 2,470,000
#12 Blue Collar TV 2,330,000 (repeat)
#13 What I Like About You 2,190,000
#14 Reba-Beg 1,910,000

nice to see Supernatural doing so well, so apparently that show will be hanging around awhile.

Yikes, What I Like About You is doing awful

yeah, it is. I'm 100% sure it will be cancelled by November sweeps.

Thanks for the information, Superstar.

This is something that puzzles me. I do not think those ratings for Charmed are bad at all. It drew 4.27 million viewers. Last year's season premiere only drew 4.07 million viewers. So the ratings went up a little. Remember this is a very, very competitive time slot. Look at what the other networks have on in that time slot. It also is the WB's fourth highest rated show. So what I am leading up to is why does everyone think this will be the last season. I still think the show is pretty good, and if it is the WB's fourth highest rated show, then why would they want to cancel it at the end of the season ?

I think since it's in season 4, WB will let WILAY finish out the season and cancel it.

well, One Tree Hill and Smallville premiere this week, I think Charmed will be down to sixth place when those hit.

There could be a lot of reasons for WB to end it, budget could be an issue. Angel was getting better ratings than Charmed but after five seasons, WB decided they no longer could afford it and it ended, same happened with Buffy in it's fifth season, WB couldn't handle the budget anymore and it almost could've ended if UPN didn't decide to bite the bullet and afford it.

Plus, 8 seasons is a very decent run, I think everyone came into this season with the "ok, this is going to be it" mentality.

Actually season 7 opened to 5.6 million viewers, so ratings went down by 1 million.

Oh the number I had was 4.07 million. If 5.6 million is the correct number than it is a significant drop.

when did Charmed's ratings peak? I know in season 3, it was the #2 show on WB behind 7th Heaven then ratings significantly dropped in season 4 and rebounded a bit in 5 and 6 and then went downhill in 7

probably around season 3, which opened to 7.70 million. Season 4 opened to 6.0 , season 5 got 6.30, and season 7 got 5.6 million

I'm a HUGE Charmed fan, but 8 seasons is enough and I think that it shouldnt go any further then this season.
