View Full Version : Didn't we feel sorry for Mad Dog...
nerrad 09-02-2005, 02:01 PM ....after his mother chewed him out. The look on his face after Donna said "she hated him and wish he was never born". That would hurt any child if their parent came out like that on them.
Then she smacked him and he started crying. Everytime I watch that, I can see why James didn't want to hit him. He even cried at the end, saying "What kind of father am I, feeling sorry for the man who shot my son".
nerrad 09-02-2005, 02:03 PM Also, Mad Dog played on What's Happening. Remember when Rerun was worshipping the lettuce. He was one of the con people, along with that woman.
hatwink 09-02-2005, 02:07 PM I didn't feel sorry for Mad Dog, not totally. It was sad what happened with his mother, but James still should have knocked the f****** daylights out of him.
hatwink 09-02-2005, 02:07 PM Also, Mad Dog played on What's Happening. Remember when Rerun was worshipping the lettuce. He was one of the con people, along with that woman.
That really was Mad Dog?
Ireneparalegal 09-02-2005, 02:22 PM That really was Mad Dog?
Yep it sure was...he was funny in that episode. A far cry from playing Mad Dog, but still playing a criminal.
I did feel sorry for Mad Dog. A part of me wishes James had just gone off and done something to him, but after seeing James' sympathy towards him shows what kind of man James' was. He is a wonderful husband, father, family man, hard-working man. He saw that Mad Dog was denied all those things and that it may have led to his downfall. And then to see Mad Dog's mom respond with words of hatred and regret, really made James see that what Mad Dog had left (a decent, hard-working, loving mother) was now gone.

Exactly. I felt the same. I didn't care at first, especially when he came to the house and pulled out the gun on James Junior. But after the courthouse scene, Ikinda changed. Hey, it's not like he shot one of my favorites, LOL. :D
Ireneparalegal 09-02-2005, 02:26 PM LOL
TVFactFan 09-02-2005, 02:27 PM I didn;t feel sorry for him either, she just slapped the sh*t out of him for mouthing off-lol
nerrad 09-02-2005, 02:35 PM Was I the only one who said, "Florida, what are you doing here"? You should've kept you a** home. I thought about it as soon as she walked into the lobby.
Ireneparalegal 09-02-2005, 02:47 PM Was I the only one who said, "Florida, what are you doing here"? You should've kept you a** home. I thought about it as soon as she walked into the lobby.
Uhhh, nope. I didn't have that thought in my head. Why did you have it???
nerrad 09-02-2005, 02:54 PM I don't know. For some, I had a feeling that she was going to show up sooner or later. James was right. "Florida, what are you doing here"? I guess that was just a way of having the two of them together for the the same scene.
nerrad 09-02-2005, 02:57 PM Please, let me leave y'all with this before I split for the weekend/holiday. When Mad Dog said to Donna about his father, "he was a wino in the gutter". Wouldn't it been a trip if Ned the Wino was his dad? I remember JJ talking about him lying in the street. That's why he painted the Black Jesus portrait in the first place..
Have a nice weekend and holiday y'all.
Brieannas21 09-02-2005, 03:46 PM No, I didn't feel sorry for him. If someone were to shoot my kid I would be locked up for murder because I would've killed Mad Dog.

But J.J was never shot, just grazed
Brieannas21 09-02-2005, 04:11 PM But J.J was never shot, just grazed
And your point being? He still shot at JJ, Mad dog didn't know that he just grazed JJ.
If you have children you would know what I'm talking about.
TVFactFan 09-02-2005, 04:16 PM And your point being? He still shot at JJ, Mad dog didn't know that he just grazed JJ.
If you have children you would know what I'm talking about.
But why would you put yourself in jail? I would think you would just let the law take care of it.

I agree with you. I don't have children, but I know how I was raised, and I have seen too many little thugs like Mad Dog do what they want because they think it is their world. Yeah I think you can feel sorry for someone like Mad Dog, but I still would have like to have seen him behind bars regardless of whether J.J. was grazed or not.
Ireneparalegal 09-02-2005, 04:33 PM I agree with you.
I have three kids. one is 21, the other 16 and my son who is 3. I know for a fact that I would be angry, upset, ready to kill someone for hurting my child. But the question was do you feel sorry for Mad Dog? The question I think was asked knowing what we know abt Mad Dog's situation at home. Of course if someone did the exact same thing to my child, I would be ONE ANGRY MOTHERF******. Get the hell outta my way, cuz someone's gonna pay!!!!!! Given the same circumstances that James was put in, I don't know that I would feel sorry for the criminal, but if I overheard the conversation that James heard, I would have sympathy. I would still want that person to pay for their crime. If that person asked for my forgiveness and showed true remorse and was going to make themselves a better life, than I could forgive them. What am I going to get by holding such a weight on my shoulders? I have had something bad happen to me when I was young, and when I was able to finally forgive the person, receive therapy and move on, it was the best feeling in the world. Nothing else feels better.
Brieannas21 09-02-2005, 06:00 PM Mad Dog didn't even say that he was sorry, so I don't think he would have cared if he killed JJ or not. I couldn't feel sorry for someone who couldn't/wouldn't apologize.
Brian Damage 09-02-2005, 06:37 PM I'm a parent and I would've kicked Mad Dog's ass from corner to corner. I don't feel sorry for criminals. I wish James shoved the shoe leather up his @$$!

Yeah, but who would have won in the end. You would have been in jail for assault and Mad Dog would have been walking the streets. See, think before you kick tail, like James did.
Brian Damage 09-03-2005, 01:33 AM At least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing he got his.
Brieannas21 09-03-2005, 02:51 AM Yeah, but who would have won in the end. You would have been in jail for assault and Mad Dog would have been walking the streets. See, think before you kick tail, like James did.
Who said that he'll be walking anywhere? LOL
Ireneparalegal 09-03-2005, 03:49 AM Who said that he'll be walking anywhere? LOL
I think he is saying that Mad Dog received probation on the episode, so what good would it do to anyone, to kick his butt, you land in jail, while Mad Dog walks away scot free.
GeorgeWBushGOP 09-03-2005, 07:53 AM I was maybe 7 or 8 when the show first aired. ANd this is one episode I actually remember watching when it originally aired.
And I remember my feelings.
I wanted James to open up a can of Whoop Ass on that no good Mad Dog.
And then at the end I had an ounce of sympathy for that mad dog. and I remember my mother reminding my for the 500th time how lucky I was.
Except my parents didn't like it when I started running aroundthe house saying "My name is MAD DOG. DIG IT?"
Brieannas21 09-03-2005, 02:11 PM I think he is saying that Mad Dog received probation on the episode, so what good would it do to anyone, to kick his butt, you land in jail, while Mad Dog walks away scot free.
A little jail time wouldn't bother me one bit when it comes to my daughter.
Ireneparalegal 09-03-2005, 02:24 PM A little jail time wouldn't bother me one bit when it comes to my daughter.
But my kids need me; how can i protect them then if I were to land in jail? And it wouldn't be for a little while either because knowing my feelings and anger, i would be charged with attempted murder, not no simple assault and battery. I would be in jail a long time, and that would be before I EVEN GET TO TRIAL!!!! So while Mad Dog is running around ON PROBATION laughing his ass off because I am in jail, he is probably going around hurting my kid(s) since he would know I am in jail. Alot of people react first, without thinking.

Well I'm married so I wouldn't have to worry about that as long as my daughter would know that I would do anything to protect her. It's not like your going to stay in jail for yrs for kicking a mans ass. I never said that he would be running anywhere or walking anywhere as long as he remembers who he got his ass kicking from. He would think twice before coming around, in, or even looking at my house or kid again.
I could see if Mad Dog kicked JJ's ass. Don't shoot at JJ and then don't even tell James that he was sorry. If he would have said I'm sorry or I apologize and really mean it I can see letting him walk away. But not to even acknowledge that he could have killed someone. That's unacceptable in my book.
hatwink 09-03-2005, 03:04 PM I would have taken Mad Dog to the side and whipped him good. I would've have broken a few bones here and there, make him squirm and scream, feel the pain I was feeling.

married or not, I have a spouse too, but that doesn't change anything. I would do anything for my kids, but as a parent WE HAVE TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS FOR OUR KIDS, Not do what we feel is right FOR OURSELVES. That's being selfish and self-centered. We can show we love our kids to death without having to go to jail and not be with them where they need us the most. As a matter of fact, i did post previously that if I was offered an apology with some action that the person was going to change their life around, then I could accept their apology and move on.
I am going thru a situation right now as a matter of fact where a girl who used to be my daughter's friend, assaulted my daughter. I am getting a restraining order against her, we are working with the victim's advocate and we are allowed to have our input on how this has affected my daughter. I get to prepare a report and have it handed to the probation dept. and the judge. Believe me, when I got the call from the police that this occurred at school, I went over there MAD!!!!!! HEADS WERE GONNA ROLL!!!!!! I was fuming and I wanted BLOOD!!!!! My first reaction. After calming down and analyzing the situation, my daughter sees how calm I am and tells me thank you for explaining the judicial system and how things will go. My daughter even told me she doesn't want the girl to get "paid back". She wants the girl to get help because she knows the girl has "issues" at home. Bad home life and a mother who doesn't know how to parent. I was so happy when my daughter told me how much she loves me and is happy I am her mother.
JMO on the Mad Dog situation, but I am living in the real world right where I do deal with situations that can appear on sit-coms.

I'm not self-centered or selfish. I would do what's right for my daughter, I would have beaten Mad Dog royally, he would have second thoughts before he picked up another gun.
Like I said, if he would have just kicked JJ's butt then I can see why James wouldn't do anything, But to shoot at another person for nothing, and then you don't even apologize and act like you don't care that you could have killed another person, especially your child. Then yeah I would have kicked Mad Dogs ass. If I would have to serve some Jail time, All be it, I would take my jail time with no arguments. But Mad Dog wouldn't come in my house again or mess with my kid again.

Exactly the message that this episode was showing. Mad Dog doesn't care, abt NO ONE. The message was showing that James is a different person, with love and honor who would do anything for his kids. He also has compassion, which was shown when he overheard what Mad Dog's mother told her son. That's the difference between the two males. One is a no-good, SOB, who doesn't care for a single person. His gang is his family. James, on the other hand raises his kids to be honest, educated, behaved, respectful, etc. He felt sorry that a father abandoned his son, and now the mother has done the same. James knows abt abandonment, his own father left his family. but rather than turn into a criminal like Mad Dog, he did the right thing in life. It's like when something bad happens to people, you look at yourself and you say something like "thank God I have what I have" or "Things could be worse". James saw that his son survived being shot and has a family. Mad Dog would continue to roam the streets, a pathetic gangster.

He also was in a variety of roles...Puerto Ricans, Native Americans, a gypsy, an Armenian, cowboys...I could go on and on. He should be at those Western film festivals because he was in plenty of them!!!!
Here is the imdb filmography Irene mentioned - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0797268/
Ireneparalegal 07-19-2008, 09:23 PM For some reason last night, I was thinking abt his role as a doctor in a movie with Tony Orlando called 3000 MILES FOR STEPHANIE. It was based on a true story. Great movie and great acting by Gregory. ;) I need to find out if that movie is on DVD.

The SHOW wasn't a success, but Gregory Sierra had an acting career spanning 30+ years.
Tap Dancer 10-20-2013, 04:10 PM A local TV station showed this episode the other night. I didn't feel sorry for Mad Dog. James is the one I felt sorry for. Mad Dog was a total *******, and he deserved what his mother said to him. James was struggling with anger, frustration, pity, guilt... I don't give a crap about Mad Dog. I don't think he was suffering the way James was.
