View Full Version : Night Stalker
isiahthomas 09-02-2005, 12:08 PM This is a new tv show coming on in the fall on the ABC network starring Stuart Townsend who is Charlize Theron's man in real life & Gabrielle Union. This show looks kinda creepy. I like Gabrielle Union a lot so i'll watch a couple of episodes to see if it's any good.

Hope it is creepy - the original was pretty damn creepy, so the producers of the remake have a lot to live up to.
The Chauffeur 09-21-2005, 06:10 AM I am waiting for this show, loved the original Kolchak:The Night Stalker, but that show didn't last beyond a season ( i think, not sure ) when it came out in the 70s. I am hoping this one fairs better :D
Brian 09-24-2005, 04:22 PM I'm going to be watching this show as well. I don't know if it will do well against CSI and The Apprentice, however, but I hope it will be a great series.

robyrob 10-01-2005, 09:54 PM nice review Todd
I liked the first episode. As its own show Nightstalker is pretty good, but it is definately not the same feel or pace as the original series. I missed the bumbling ineptitude of the original Kolchak, but I don't know how well that would've worked with the direction they took here. For someone that hasn't seen the original series this would likely sit somewhere in the middle of the pack of sci-fi mystery-type shows, although it has the potential to be a great show. For a fan of the original series, this doesn't recapture the magic - but it is worth watching.

I agree.
The Chauffeur 10-07-2005, 10:31 PM I'm actually really liking this show, but a few things kind of annoyed me a little bit. I know it's supposed to be it's own show and all, but, I think they should put at least something in it that takes a nod to the original Kolchak. I'm actually seeing more of a nod to the X-Files if that makes any sense. The original Kolchack didn't need a sidekick, but this Kolchack needs a Scully? Don't get me wrong, I like the show a lot, but it just feels kind of wierd watching a show named after one of my favorites shows, but yet I feel like I'm watching a show that seems more inspired by another. I think the only real similarity I see is he's a journalist. If you see any more similarities, please, let me know!

You have got to be kidding!
isiahthomas 11-19-2005, 02:30 PM I'm not kidding. Somebody on here told me the show got cancelled when i posted in the movies forum about Gabrielle Union getting a recent divorce.
The Chauffeur 11-19-2005, 02:42 PM  That beyond sux. They didn't even try to improve that shows time slot. Yet they let the incredibly sucky shows like Invasion stay on. Something is off about that.

That's true -- and they didn't even resolve a two-part episode!

That's correct. KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER (ABC, 1974-1975) only ran for
one season. The new version, though, only lasted a few weeks.

Frank Spotniz, the producer of the new NIGHT STALKER, was a producer on THE
X-FILES. So, that isn't too surprising.

That was me. The cancellation was announced on TV Guide's website.

Well, that's a big slap in the face to the people who are fans! I really wanted to see the second part of that ep!

I agree! So did I. But the series was pre-empted this week, and it is pre-empted again next week (according to the TV GUIDE listings). So I don't
hold out much hope.
Ronn Harmon 11-19-2005, 04:34 PM NEW YORK, NY, United States (UPI) -- ABC announced Monday it was pulling the plug on 'Night Stalker' after only six episodes.
ABC will fill 'Night Stalker`s' Thursday night time slot with an expanded 'Primetime' this week and previously scheduled movies will occupy the time in the next weeks after that, Zap2it.com reported.
There were no plans at this time to air the three remaining original episodes, ABC said.
'While I`m disappointed the series has come to an end, I am enormously grateful for the experience and the opportunity given me by the network and Touchstone Television,' creator Frank Spotnitz wrote on his Web site.
In its six weeks on the air -- opposite the CBS powerhouse series 'CSI' -- 'Night Stalker' averaged just 5.2 million viewers.

I'm thinking of boycotting ABC myself, I am a fan of Lost though. But it seems to them that if a show doesn't come out of the gate with the success of Lost it's canned! This isn't the first show they've done this to for example: Eyes. That was one of their better shows and it's been hurled into oblivion. They need to get the morons out of their network exectutive chairs and start giving good shows more of a chance.
