View Full Version : Who do you think was "burned" by not receiving an Oscar or Oscar Nomination?
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 12:28 PM I was watching "What's Love Got To Do With It" for I think the millionth and one time. And I couldn't help but feel that Angela was denied an Oscar for that performance of portraying Tina Turner. She was awesome, she showed such artistic display and her acting made me believe I was really watching Tina, not Angela. I watched "Chicago" and I loved that movie. Catherine Zeta Jones won an Oscar for her portrayal. Yet, that part was alot of singing and dancing. Angela's part entailed dancing, performing and lip-synching to another person's voice. I just feel she was denied and should have gotten the award. Not that her performance was any less for not receiving it.
TripperFan 09-01-2005, 12:32 PM Can't remember his name, but the guy who starred in Hotel Rwanda.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 12:33 PM Can't remember his name, but the guy who starred in Hotel Rwanda.
Oh that's Don Cheadle. Yeah, awesome actor. BTW, he is married to Angela. Good to see you Tripper. Haven't see u in a while.

Don Cheadle.
Denzel Washington's been burned twice: no nomination for Philadelphia and no win for Malcolm X.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 12:35 PM Don Cheadle.

You must be psychic, I was just ready to post this myself.... I love his work and YES, he was BURNED!!!! OMG, Malcolm X was phenomenal. Love that movie. Just don't understand why he wasn't even nominated for Philadelphia.
vashti1999 09-01-2005, 12:36 PM Oh that's Don Cheadle. Yeah, awesome actor. BTW, he is married to Angela.
Angela Bassett is married to Courtney Vance, not Don Cheadle.
TripperFan 09-01-2005, 12:39 PM THAT'S the guy - yeah - an amazing actor. I know the ones who were up against him were also excellent. Its tough when they have so many who deserve it in one year.
Yeah - good to be back too. Needed a bit of a break, but can't stay away too long.
O/T but I'm sooooo pissed - lost a bunch of channels yesterday so I don't get TVLand now - no more Good Times. Meanwhile, just in the last week I had like 20 good questions to ask about certain eps. Damn!!! Gonna have to buy the DVD set now for sure.
HuntingtonM15 09-01-2005, 12:39 PM I think Christina Ricci should have gotten a nod for Monster, and I personally feel that Chloe Sevigny should have won over Jolie.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 12:41 PM Angela Bassett is married to Courtney Vance, not Don Cheadle.
Ooops my error. What was I thinking. Yep, u is soooo right. Sorry.
dlemond 09-01-2005, 12:42 PM Don Cheadle.

Yeah, but he won for Training Day, which was a crime.
Russell Crowe (far better in A Beautiful Mind) was robbed.

Oh I am sorry. Was your line-up changed or something? I hate that when that happens. Sorry Tripper. Just glad to see you back.
Dean Winchester 09-01-2005, 03:46 PM Whoopi Goldberg was robbed for her performance of Celie in The Color Purple... if that wasn't Oscar-worthy, I don't know what is. Definately in my top 5 favorite performances of all time.

Catherine won Best Supporting Actress for 'Chicago', Angela was the Lead Actress in 'What's Love Got To Do With It'.

You welcome, lol.
In fact, no one has won an Lead Oscar for a musical since Liza Minelli for 'Cabaret' in 1972.
HuntingtonM15 09-01-2005, 07:50 PM I forgot about Cher in Silkwood. I think she was very deserving. I also think Renee Zellweger's performance in Cold Mountain is very overrated. Holly Hunter, Patricia Clarkson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and possibly even Marcia Gay Harden were all more deserving than Renee.
Skywalker 09-07-2005, 10:35 PM Steve McQueen should have gotten a nod for his perfomance in Papillon.
Nighthawk76 09-07-2005, 11:57 PM Steve McQueen should have gotten a nod for his perfomance in Papillon.
I totally agree.
Also:
James Stewart for Vertigo
Al Pacino for Scarface
Jrnygrl 09-08-2005, 12:37 AM I agree with Don Cheadle not winning. I also thing Lawrence Fishburne has been ignored too. He was so great as Ike, and if anyone saw Othello he was wonderful in that too. I think Johnny Depp is also always a bride maid never a bride. Angela Bassett I feel has really been ignored as a female actress, to give an Oscar to Halle and not Angela to me is really sad. (No offense to any Halle Berry fans. )

I hear that Jrnygrl!!! Got that right!!!! I love Halle, but Angela should have been the first black leading actress to get the award. Even though she didn't get it, in my book, she did a fantastic job.

Seriously if you look at Angela's body of work, compared to Halle's there is no contest. I have nothing against Halle,(I hope to comeback in my next life and look like her ;) ), but Angela has the talent hands down.

CliffClavin 09-08-2005, 02:46 PM I like that movie it's called Vampire In Brooklyn.

Every actor is entitled to one bad movie in their career. ;)
