Back in the day, when shows ended they showed the closing credits. Nowadays, closing credits are shown but you CAN'T READ THEM BECAUSE THEY GET PUT TO THE SIDE AS SOME OTHER GARBAGE IS SHOWING!!!!! Wheeew, boy did i vent there!!!! LOL
I like to see the credits and get info on who appeared, what their name is etc. It is so awful. I am sure someone on this forum can say alot better than I how I feel.

They either scrunch them up the side OR they scan them through so fast you cant keep up! Its so annoying if you see someone on a show and wonder if 'heeey he looks familiar. Ill have to get his name after.'

I completely agree with you. I want closing credits, formal closing credits, back on TV

Whoopeeee!!!! I felt like I was the only one who felt this way. I feel the old way should come back. Besides, I feel that actors who appear on the show as well as the people who put the shows together should get their name recognized. How would I feel if I worked hard on something and my name got all scrunched up like a pug's face? I would hate that.

You know, I have a habit of putting all my writing and typing in all caps. It's a habit. When I print, I do all caps all the time. When it comes to things like this, I just feel the title should be in caps with the message in regular type. I think I have a couple of threads with no caps. Crazy I know. No, don't think you are being mean, just being curious and that's okay.

They're scrunched and distorted; they're shrunken; they go by so quickly that even if they are full-screen you can't read 'em.

I hate it too.

I often wonder why the people in the industry don't complain. You would think that all of the various unions involved would be screaming, loudly, from each and every rooftop. That is their recognition; their bread and butter.

Are you talking about closing credits in syndication?

no. currently.

Yeah, I agree. I was watching The Closer Monday night and the credits were squished on the bottom and no one without a magnifying glass could have read them. Why even have end credits then??

Erm, yeah that's why it bothers me. Good ol' IMDB, though.

I feel exactly the same way as you. :)

Plus, I like to see what year the episode was made. I'm such a geek like that. ;)

I personally like the ending tag sequences instead of a theme song.

I think Roseanne reruns on N@N is how the ending of a show should look. It ends, but the credits go over the last tag scene at the end, yet it's not disruptive of the show and also the credits are of a decent size font and they aren't blink-and-miss.

Me too, especially with Family Feud episodes. I categorize them by year, and now that GSN has those damn squished credits, I can't see it anymore. pissed:

See, that is a good example of why the credits shouldn't be squished. I love the endings of Roseanne, those tag scenes are classic.

BTW, kinda on the same topic, what do you all think abt when an episode starts and they don't bother with the theme song, the usual opening and instead go right to the show while the opening credits scroll at the bottom?

I love how they do it on Fresh Prince (occasionally) when they show outtakes behind the closing credits.

What I hate even worse is ABC Family completely RE-FORMATTING the credits and running a stupid advertisement for one of their stupid shows while they run the stupid messed up credits.

I hate that in 1999, every single soap on US daytime television adapted the squished credit form. It's not entirely hard to see the credits, but closing credits on soaps are an event as opposed to closings on other shows.

Most of the time, soap closing theme songs are long, extended versions of the opening theme. I remember growing up, watching the closings to "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "As the World Turns" and being hypnotized by the music. And the credits were always nice to look at it, especially beauty shots, which are like scenes that close up the days episode. Like if a husband and wife argued all episode long, and at the end, the husband walks out, the beauty shots would show him out somewhere (in his car, in a bar, etc) and her probably crying at the dining table. You dont get that stuff anywhere else, you know!

SOAPnet used to make its own "real" closings for its soaps, but dumped them in favor of ABC's new way of running the credits. "days of our Lives" still uses real credits tho. And the ABC soaps get real credits on the networks and on SOAPnet for the annual Christmas episode. I *loved* AMC's credits for Christmas 2004!

Me too. I also get ticked when they show syndicated versions on TV, I mean the WTB? theme song is like a 40 seconds long, why do they shorten it?

PZelda
09-01-2005, 10:37 PM
I'd rather have longer episodes with shorter themesongs than vice-versa.
Hunter is VERY notorious for that. Long opening credits & even longer closing credits. I think most Hunter opening credits are timed at about 1:10 - 1:30 (not sure of length) and the closing credits are nearly 2 minutes long, because they like to play clips from that episode, then they "freeze" them and show the credits before going on to the next clip, and so on.

Dean Winchester

the worst example of a shortened threme song is Lifetime's version of The Golden Girls, it's about 1/3rd the length of the NBC/DVD versions

Ireneparalegal

Oh yeah, it sounds awful...for those of us who know the real version of a song and to only hear part of it is weird. I am so confused!!!! I like the theme songs to be short so I can get to the show, but then I feel cheated when I hear an edited version of it. You see what these shows have done to me!!!!

I also hate the way they treat the closing credits! They even do that with the reruns, and I hate it!!

Like tonight, I was watching "All in the Family" on TV LAND, and someone on it looked and sounded familiar, so I decided to try and catch his name at the end. But, the credits were pushed aside and they showed a promo for the network, so I missed the guys name!

THE WORST treatment of them, though, has to be what PAX does with the closing credits of "Bonnanza". Not only do they scrunch them up so small you can't even read them, they shove them to the bottom of the screen so they can show some promo for one of their other shows!!

A LOT of the hourlong 80s shows had very long openings. Just about ALL of the primetime soaps had openings that lasted somewhere between 1:00 and 2:00. The longest one I think of is a "Dynasty" opening that lasted I believe 2 and a half minutes.

I'm just irritated that they use that space to plug another show...THAT THEY'VE PLUGGED 800 TIMES DURING THE SHOW ITSELF ALREADY. They plugged it at commercial breaks, they plugged it with annoying popups during the show itself, and they plug it at the end.

I've watched episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke show" & "MASH" on DVD, and, even though I had seen the episodes over and over on TV, on DVD I saw the tag scenes for the VERY FIRST TIME. And they put a new "spin" on the plot.
