View Full Version : Still can't believe Floirda said this when they won the lottery for $2500
TVFactFan 09-01-2005, 10:10 AM "You know, you boys could use a new sofa bed"-LOL I think this statement would have sounded a lot better-"you know, we can use the money to find another place to live"

True, so true. But so did Thelma's statement abt wanting a fur-lined long coat. She said something like that, it was hard to hear because they were all making noise and the camera was following Tamu as she went out the door.

They could have used some food too

LOL. This reminds me of the episode of "Baby I'm Back" when Jordan won $18,000 in the "Racetrack" episode. His grandmother said she was gonna get a facelift and a trip to NYC. Grandaughter Angie(Kim Fields) was gonna get a pony. The mother, Olivia was gonna get a foreign car, a fur coat, new furniture and a trip around Europe while her mother Luzelle takes the kids to Disneyworld. I am trying to figure out which situation sounds more realistic.
J.J. was gonna send Thelma to Spain. There goes most of the money. LOL.

I know they were acting like they had $25,000 instead of $2500
GeorgeWBushGOP 09-01-2005, 04:10 PM Even in the 70's that much money would barely buy you a new car then alone a trip to spain.

Maybe JJ's plot was to send her there (as cheaply as possible) and LEAVE HER A$$ THERE. LOL LOL

Food for thought.
ThomasE 09-01-2005, 06:03 PM I think when one is not accustomed to not having a lot and they get a lump sum of at one time and they never had it before, they would tend to visualize and fantasize.

Yes!!!!!!
Janice Johnson 06-04-2006, 05:27 PM Florida actually DID have a good idea. She said that they should put the money into education for the children, since she and James promised that there would be money for education. And give everybody thier props. No one said, "Let's use this $2500 to buy more Lottery tickets!(Like a LOT of people would say/do).

Rereading this post, how could they find somewhere better to live when they were just making ends meet where they were at? They still didn't have the means to pay higher rent for a better place. $2500 may have been a lot in the 70's, but in the long run, it wouldn't do the family any good if they moved and found themselves in a worst position.

That is so true, it wasn't that much money.

Yes, but $2500 dollars wasn't all that much. What were they going to do once that money ran out?

They would be right back in the projects. So it was a good thing that they saved it for school. That was the responsible thing to do.
But they could have taken a couple hundred to buy a new TV
