She seemed very stubborn to me. And although Clair may have been stubborn as well, I suppose I don't notice it as much considering that she and her family lived a comfortable lifestyle. She was a true mother struggling to keep her family afloat living on a low income. She knew whatever the situation may be she knew it was all going to work out. Her performance when James died when she said the classic, "DAMN, DAMN, DAMN" was so powerful and I get chills when that scene rolls around. Her homecoming in the final season was moving she made that scene so real when she was so glad to see her children. I like Clair Huxtable as well but given Florida's circumstances in life she was much more grounded than Clair. My vote is for Florida - Phylicia Rashad as Clair Huxtable was nice to look at; Esther Rolle as Florida Evans was memorable. When Phylicia Rashad was on screen, you could see her acting; when Esther Rolle was on screen, you saw Florida Evans. This is not an insult to Rashad, but as an actress, she wasn't even close to being in Rolle's league. She is someone who was more real. One can identify with her regardless of their income.
