View Full Version : What Happened to the Hollywood Walk of Fame????
Ireneparalegal 08-31-2005, 12:49 PM I live abt an hour from Hollywood and have seen the Walk of Fame many times. But I have become so disenchanted with it when things like Chris Farley recently getting a star!!!!! For what??? Being an over-grown, out of shape druggie!!!???? Okay, he did comedy, but so have alot of legit comedians out there. To be honest with you, it is true you can buy a star on the walk. Yes one must be nominated, but the person getting the star, or the fan clubs MUST PAY THE FEE! I remember at one time it was abt $3000 . Chump change to celebrities. If a star doesn't want to pay the fee or no one else wants to pay the fee, then no star is issued. If a celebrity is dead, like in the case of Chris Farley, either the family, the fan club or whoever wants to see the star on the fame needs to pay the fee. I mentioned this thread due to a poster mentioning the walk of fame on the thread "ungrateful actors/actresses". It used to be that legit performers received a star, nowadays, ANYONE is getting it.
SBTB Geek 08-31-2005, 12:52 PM The Walk of Fame lost its credibility after Ryan Seacrest got a star.
Ireneparalegal 08-31-2005, 12:54 PM that's right. I remember that. UUGGGHHHHHH!!!!! come on now, what the hell does he deserve it for????? I'm telling you, ANYONE CAN GET A STAR. I am going to nominate Retro for the fame for all his research regarding sitcoms!!!!! Who wants to pay the fee!!!?????? LOL
The Chauffeur 08-31-2005, 01:18 PM which is why i boycott hollywood for the most part, i would rather watch the old stuff anyways. I gave up back when Brittney got a star !

Irene I couldn't agree with you more. Oh and the fee is not $15,000. Its become a joke.
bad_boy 08-31-2005, 02:20 PM Chris Farley is the man im glad he got a star.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 08-31-2005, 02:51 PM Ryan Seacrest got his star for RADIO, NOT American Idol. Im very proud of my Seacrest
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-31-2005, 03:24 PM Over grown, out of shape druggie? What a nice thing to say. Chris Farley happened to be an awesome guy and I doubt you know **** about him.

MsOrange 08-31-2005, 03:34 PM Chris Farley is ****in awesome! Ever seen "Tommy Boy"... STFU until you do :)
MaydayMalonesGirl 08-31-2005, 03:38 PM Over grown, out of shape druggie? What a nice thing to say. Chris Farley happened to be an awesome guy and I doubt you know **** about him.
x2. Chris Farley was hilarious. He supplied me with my location.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 08-31-2005, 03:49 PM Chris Farley was like a genius comedian. He was so much like John Belushi and unfortunately just like him his life ended too soon. He came from the same state where I live. He's from Madison, Wisconsin (I live in Milwaukee though). I think it's cool he got a Star. As for Ryan Seacrest- eh, I'm not so surre about that!
Mijada 08-31-2005, 04:17 PM They gave Lassie a star. She had more talent than some of the others imo.
Superstar 08-31-2005, 04:36 PM Britney has one? Aww, man.
Some of the recent additions do deserve it like Drew Barrymore, who I really like and.....I can't think of any others
MsOrange 08-31-2005, 05:04 PM Lauren Graham needs one :snob:
SBTB Geek 08-31-2005, 05:56 PM Ryan Seacrest got his star for RADIO, NOT American Idol. Im very proud of my Seacrest
I know he got it for radio. Which makes it worse since he was never big in the radio biz until AI!... He had a crappy afternoon show on Star (98.7) which performed lousy compared to his competitors (Frosty, Heidi and Frank.)

Yah, true. Well hes since moved on to KIIS FM in LA, and hes also taken over Caseys AT40. Im sure he'll probably be around for a while in radio.
TheGreatPretender 08-31-2005, 07:17 PM I know you are irritated but please don't call him an "overgrown druggie" no matter who it is no one deserves that. It's rude and disrespectful.
P.s I dare you to watch TommyBoy specificllyyyyyy "fat guy in a little coat" and not laugh :snob: :p
Pitooey 08-31-2005, 07:53 PM I remember reading when Ryan Seacrest got his star and I also could not believe it. ohno: I just hope Lauren Bacall doesn't find out.
Brian Damage 08-31-2005, 08:08 PM Ryan Seacrest does not deserve a star. At least not yet. When you talk about all time great DJ's, you think of so many people like Casey Kasem, Wolfman Jack, etc. Seacrest isn't even in the discussion.
Who the **** cares? It's a slab of cement in the ****ing ground. Get a life, people.

And I'm glad to say that Susan Lucci has been a star for well over 20 years, which very much merits the star she got in January (just in time for her 35th anniversary on television!).
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 01:29 AM Over grown, out of shape druggie? What a nice thing to say. Chris Farley happened to be an awesome guy and I doubt you know **** about him.
I know enough S**T abt him to not want to know any more abt him. And as for you name calling (Whores), goes to show that little minds appreciate obese, overweight druggies. Nada Mas para usted, entiendes????
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 01:33 AM :racist:
Hmmmm, calling people racist when you don't even know what color anyone is here on this board. You are ignorant. I don't need to see an entire movie of his to know he is crap. That's all. It's my opinion and if you and the other one can't tolerate one's opinion without using "racist" and STFU words, then maybe the moderator will teach you abt using the forums and how to respect the people who "chat" on here. I owe no respect to a dead celebrity. But on this board, we do. Grow Up.

you know Brian, you are an awesome moderator. I think that that title is given to people who don't know **** abt being a moderator. You Brian set a great example. You are a great man. A great friend and you know how to put people in their place without lowering yourself to their level. Which is lower than S***. You keep up the good work. Those with the title "moderator" who don't know how to set a good example are just like those damn stars who get stars on the fame for nothing. Casey Kasem is awesome. Wolfman Jack was theeeee BEST. Seacrest,??????? Give him another 20 yrs. then maybe.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 01:39 AM I know he got it for radio. Which makes it worse since he was never big in the radio biz until AI!... He had a crappy afternoon show on Star (98.7) which performed lousy compared to his competitors (Frosty, Heidi and Frank.)
OMG I love the triplets. They have an awesome radio show. You are so damn right. Couldn't have said it better. Now, try to convince those who think that low lifes deserve recognition for such little input when there are those who are more deserving, those who worked their asses off.
The Chauffeur 09-01-2005, 01:39 AM Quite honestly most of the old stars were drug addicts or alcoholics, I don't condone it, but I don't deny their talents
Dean Winchester 09-01-2005, 01:43 AM between the two, Farley deserved his star much more than Seacrest.
Seacrest is one of the most maligned people in show business, I know a lot of people who say American Idol would be better off without him.

well, I hate to disagree with you since we seem to agree on a lot of other things. But Chris Farley was a very funny guy. The first time he did the Motivational Speaker sketch on SNL in 93, people talked about it for weeks. That sketch made him a star overnight. He didn't have a very long film resume, but Tommy Boy was a very funny movie, and he also was the best part in Coneheads. He threw it all away by living so dangerously, but he was a very funny guy and his legacy lives because people are still watching Tommy Boy and his SNL skits eight years later.

You know, you have more class than the others who were furious with my post. I just wanted to let you know that. People can give their opinions on this post. Doesn't mean it's life or death. I like the way you gave your opinion on Chris Farley without resorting to typical "foul language" calling people "whores" and most of all, using a "smily" to call someone racist when they don't even know what the hell color a person is. NEVER ASSUME. IT MAKES AN ASS OUT OF U AND ME. This last statement is for those who assume.

Okay Okay, Love Clay Aiken. Hey, by the way, I like Clay. He is an awesome singer. I didn't say Seacrest has no talent, I just feel he should have more years under his belt. But then again, this walk of fame thing doesn't go by years, it starts out with a nomination. That's the beginning for someone getting a star.

Well, I do kinda agree that its odd for Ryan to get a start so early when hes only been publicly famous since 2002, but me being in love with him Im totally ecstatic about it.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 11:24 AM Oh, okay, I see now, YOU LOVE THE GUY....well there it is...LOL If I loved someone too, hell, I'd want to see them get a star as well!!!!! Ryan as a person, I think, is cute, funny in his own way, and charming. Just needs more time under the belt as a radio person. JMO, nothing more. But I don't decide who gets their star, that is totally based on nominations. Hey, nominate Clay for his!!!!!!!

Yah, Ryan has done a lot, but he is still young. I like that he got it, though it does seem a bit odd to me too.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 11:53 AM Now, whenever I visit the walk of fame again, I am gonna leave a note on his star saying You are glad he got his star and are a big fan and, oh yeah, YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH HIM!!!!! As for the Clay fans, I am sure they will get that nomination thing going, if they haven't already.

that is odd that Britney has a star yet Madonna doesn't, and Britney's the first person who'll tell you Madonna influenced her.

Sure is, kinda reminds me of all those lame and mindless awards show. I guess only lame and mindless people enjoy those because they don't mean nothing in the real world. As a matter of fact, way back in the days of the Walk of Fame, there were people who were issued stars and when you see them you just wonder, "Who the heck are they?" These are people (stars) from the 30's 40's and 50's. So, the current "stars" getting them will have people 40 years from now saying, "Who was that???" or something to that effect.
Ireneparalegal 09-01-2005, 06:49 PM that is odd that Britney has a star yet Madonna doesn't, and Britney's the first person who'll tell you Madonna influenced her.
Yeah, and I love Madonna. I have always loved her from the beginning. I was 17 when she started. WOW. Long time ago. Anyhow, I believe (gonna check it out) that stars who are nominated also have to want to appear in person to receive it. They can't pay the fee and then not show up. I will check on that and see.

Madonna was offered it a number of times by various fan clubs, but rejected it. To get a star, you must be funded and supposrted by a fan club.
Personally, as a Madonna fan, I am glad she rejected it. The entire idea is so lame...
dawsongirl 09-03-2005, 03:34 AM I also thought you had to be present at the ceremony...but that wouldn't make sense anymore since they've given dead people stars.

Usually a relative or associate or friend must appear on behalf of the deceased. Such as was the case for Chris Farley. I believe it was some business associate, a female. Can't remember her name.

list of stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Kermit the Frog's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The following is a list of stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There is also a Category:Hollywood Walk of Fame; both should be consistent with the list on the Hollywood Walk of Fame website (http://www.hollywoodchamber.net/php/wofstars.php) maintained by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Note: The names of some of the people on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are incorrectly spelled, while some are missing from the list, even from the "official list" on the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce web site.
