In response to several posts on this board regarding Beaver and Wally's friends, I'm throwing in my two cents on why the boys had a number of rotten friends.
1. The men who created Leave it to Beaver, Joe Connolly and Bob Mosher intended the show to focus on life through a child's eyes., through situations that would come up in everyday life. One situation was peer pressure and it became evident when Beaver was coaxed into doing something bad. An example was shown last week when Beaver was talked into calling Linda Dennison a bad name to prove that she wasn't his girlfriend.
2. They didn't want to make the show like Ozzie and Harriet and Father Knows Best so they created the Eddie Haskell character to keep the show from becoming bland.
