I believe it was to be the Hostess of an established bar/restaurant where she'd make more money.

I like this answer the best, it's a combination of all our answers, but this explanation sums it up the best. As a matter of fact, as I read it I could see the episode play in my mind. She had that fancy big car with guns on it, I also believe it had silver dollars on it. but yeah, she was offered a job and that was how the show ended, with Flo saying goodbye to ALL THE MEN OF PHOENIX that knew her. the line of guys went out Alice's front door.

Right. Everybody wanted "a Goodbye kiss from Flo"-lol. I remember that episode very well for some reason, even though its been a long time since I saw it. I remember it was kind of sad knowing she would not be back on ALICE ever again.

One scene that sticks out in my mind is when Mel and Flo are out in back talking--in a way, saying their goodbyes.

FLO: Mel, I'm not gonna go without your blessing.

MEL: (Reluctantly makes a sign of the cross) BLESS you . . .

FLO: Oh, Mel what's buggin you?

MEL: You're just going off to Houston to some BIG restaurant and you'll forget ALL about Mel's. You've USED Mel's Diner as a STEPPING stone.

FLO: A stepping stone?! Are you out of your mind, I've given this dump the best years of my life. (Stands up to leave. Mel pinches her on the behind)

LOL- You are right, from what I've seen of the spinoff FLO it was doomed from the start, even though I like the character and the actress(Polly Holliday), the other characters and situations were BORING. Flo needed to be on Alice.
That having been said, I would buy FLO if it came out on DVD, just because it's so rare. ;)

DARN IT!!! I have most ALL the episodes, I recorded them off E years ago,,,THEY CUT OUT THE PART WHERE SHE SOFTLY SAYS 'KISS MY GRITS"!!!

"Phyllis" wasn't a bad show it's first season, even if there are a small handful of mediocre episodes...including one with a pre-"Alice" Linda Lavin! It was a slightly prophetic one, too...called "Widows...Merry And Oherwise"!

I haven't seen "Flo" since it was on, but I remember it very well. It had some fabulous moments, and in general terms, had a very different feel than "Alice". I liked it. I think it's too easy to say "that show was crap" or some such, if one doesn't have the opportunity to see it in it's entirety...ceratinly we haven't had that opportunity with "Flo" in decades.
