View Full Version : I think Kim Fields would've made a good Penny
nerrad 08-29-2005, 12:26 PM Hey, at least she was experienced being on television. And could you imagine the scenes between Penny (Kim) and her mother (Chip). She would've been more believable than Janet, who I feel got the part because of her being part of a famous family.
Who knows Retro, you might've loved the Penny episodes if they did it like that, LOL.

I was never a fan of seeing KIDS being added to a sitcom that's been on the air for 4 or 5 years
gidgetgrape 08-29-2005, 12:42 PM I don't know! I've never seen Kim Fields do anything dramatic other than that episode of The Facts of Life where she went crazy because Miss G. didn't want her to go to the Jermaine Jackson concert. It might have been hard for her to do those kind of scenes with her mother.

LOL. I remember that Jermaine episode. One of her worse performances if I should say so. What person would go all the pieces over Jermaine Jackson, him with the lard in his hair.

Brian Damage 08-29-2005, 07:59 PM The thing is, Kim was smaller and cuter than Janet, so it might've worked better.

Not to mention that her and her mother worked very hard at their craft. They were the very first mother and daughter actresses that I had ever heard of at that time. I believe Kim could have handled it. That Jermaine episode was not a good example of her drama skills though. How weird that Kim appeared on Good Times with Janet Jackson. Years later on Facts of Life, Jermaine Jackson appeared with Kim. There are alot of these. Just like Louis Gossett Jr. and John Amos on Good Times and then appearing together on "Roots". Thalmus Ra? (sp?), he played Florida's boss, appeared on Good Times and he also appeared on "Roots".
TVFactFan 08-30-2005, 09:54 AM I did like the way Kim Fields character put a NESS on everything she said on Good Times-lol

She also recorded a song about Michael Jackson in 1984.
Please answer my letters
Dear Michael, you’ll probably never get this letter
Michael, I wrote you a hundred times before
But knowing how I feel, I’ll write a thousand more
Dear Michael, every time your record’s on
Michael, I close my eyes and sing along
Dreaming you’re signing to me
And don’t you know, Michael, I love you
I’ve held the tears back long as I can
I’m sealing my feelings in this envelope
‘Cause I wanna be more than just your number one fan
Dear Michael, I kiss your picture by my bed
Michael, I wish that it was you instead
Holding me so tight while we’d be dancing
Together through the night, dear Michael, won’t you write
P.S. Michael
Do you think 14 is too young to get married
Michael, Michael
Won’t you write, won’t you write me back
Dear Michael
Please answer my letters
I kiss your picture by my bed
Michael, I wish it was you instead
Michael, I have but one fantasy
And that’s to hear you say you love me
You really love me
Dear Michael, dear Michael
Please answer my letters
(Dear Michael)
Michael, Michael
Won’t you write, won’t you write me back
(Dear Michael)
Please write me back
Michael, Michael
Won’t you write, won’t you write me back
(Dear Michael)
Please write me back
(Dear Michael)
(Dear Michael)
Michael, Michael
Won’t you write, won’t you write me back
(Dear Michael)
Please write me back
(Dear Michael)
Michael, Michael
nerrad 08-30-2005, 10:58 AM :bouncers I remember that sh**. She was on either Soul Train or American Bandstand because I watched it. I think it was AB.
hatwink 09-01-2005, 04:14 PM Michael probably would have kissed her on the lips too after the final episode.
TVFactFan 09-01-2005, 04:17 PM I still think they both was two young to be on Good times, kim and janet

Um, I hate when people say that Janet got her role as Penny because of the Jacksons. The Jacksons do SINGING, not ACTING........

True, but it certainly didn't hurt that her last name was Jackson.

It's a jump the shark moment, lol

She was ACTING on the Summer Variety Show in the summer of 1976, the YEAR before she did Good Times. So that is the reason she was chosen. Also that stupid mae west imitation she did on Good Times was also done on that Jackson variety show.
retrochick9 06-05-2006, 08:34 PM I think Kim was too young at the time to play Penny, especially with her own mother, that would have been too freaky for a little girl.
It was originally recorded by Michael Jackson himself back in 1975 on his "Forever Michael" album. A song to himself about a crazed fan, but in his song he actually writes the girl back, saying he's dreaming of meeting her from her picture she sent to him.
Just thought you'd like to know that Kim remade Michael's song. I knew it sounded familiar.
CindyRoxiesLair2006 06-09-2006, 12:25 PM Kim Fields was adorable and a pretty good kid actor, and yes she would have definitely made a cool version (unique, anyway) of the Penny character on that show. :) ;)

Right. I guess I should've said that all along: That Kim WAS a better actress than janet jackson.

That scene with Penny Crying after being chased by some guy looked so strange-lol It looked like she was laughing instead of crying

Jermaine didn't have lard in his hair during that decade. He was sexy and he was also the one I obsessed over. I liked the whole group, but Jermaine was my fantasy guy.
