Is this a fictional town or a real city in NC? Also does anyone know where Andy Griffith is originally from?

View Full Version : The town of Mayberry TV Watcher 08-28-2005, 07:15 PM Is this a fictional town or a real city in NC? Also does anyone know where Andy Griffith is originally from? sar 08-31-2005, 08:25 AM Mayberry is a fictitious town based on Andy Griffith's hometown of Mt. Airy, NC. Americansportzfan 09-04-2005, 12:12 AM sar is correct. Andy did base a lot of things in Mayberry on Mt. Airy, NC. For example, the Snappy Lunch, mentioned in the series, is an actual restaurant in Mt. Airy and Mount Pilot came from Pilot Mount, which is near Mt. Airy. I'm sure there are other examples, but I can' think of'em at the moment. Other things in the series can also be found in his comedy albums, which pre-date the Andy Griffith Show. GoofySue59 09-26-2005, 09:20 PM I think the series was filmed in California. I'd heard that somewhere but I stand ready to be corrected. I really enjoyed the episode(s) where Andy and the family went to Hollywood to see them make a movie out of him. :cat: sar 09-27-2005, 07:44 AM The series was indeed filmed in California at the old Forty Acres backlot in Culver City. Here's a link to lots of info and photos of the place: http://www.radoknews.com/andy-griffith-show.html |
