Rap producer Suge Knight shot on eve of awards show

Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight is in stable condition after being shot during a party in honor of hip hop artist Kanye West at a popular night club in Miami, Fl.

Police report that Knight was shot in the right leg around early Sunday morning. The party, held on the eve of the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, was attended by several prominent industry celebrities including Jessica Alba, Eddie Murphy, Paris Hilton, the Game and The Black Eyed Peas.

Knight's injuries are not life-threatening, though he did sustain a fractured leg which will likely be operated on sometime Sunday.

Eyewitnesses said at least six shots were fired during the incident. Miami police and firefighters arrived quickly and evacuated the club.

Guests were not searched when entering the Shore Club hotel where West's party was held.

The awards, which are being held in Miami for the second straight year, are preceded by several days of decadent A-list parties. The party thrown by West, a 2005 Grammy winner and multi-platinum artist, was the most coveted invite of the weekend, with hundreds of fans and admirers swarmed around the club's entrance.

The burly Knight, founder of Death Row Records, earned a fearsome reputation as one of the most powerful figures of the rap industry in the 1990s, producing self-styled 'gangster rappers' Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur.

Shakur was shot and killed in 1996 while riding in the passenger seat of Knight's car, months after the two participated in the beating of a gang rival in a Las Vegas hotel.

Police said they had no suspects in the Miami shooting though they continue to talk to eyewitnesses. Knight, a Los Angeles native, has had a long association with the infamous Bloods gang of his home city.

It's sweet to see Green Day win "Viewers Choice" award. Those of us who remember their first go-round in the mid-90's remember the big backlash that happened after the Insomniac album, they were considered about as "cool" as Ashlee Simpson is now, so it's nice to see that they're one of the few that can come back and redeem themselves and be even bigger than the first time around.

Eh...IMO Hollaback Girl is extrmley overrated.

I liked Green Day's performance. And i thought The Game should've won something.

ok, I've been watching the replay. I don't see the fuss with the way Brandon Flowers looks, he's got less makeup on than Billie Joe does. Yes kids, Billie Joe didn't always have all the eyeliner that he does now. Brandon defines the word sexy, IMO, Billie was a lot cuter in the Dookie days before he went glam and tie

I also loved the different performances. I also LOVED seing Beevis and Butthead! Oh how I have missed them! They did help pave the way for many cartoons like South Park and Family Guy imo. And you are right, Daria and B&B never should have been taken off of MTV.

I am kinda glad to see B&B back. It's great that Mike Judge is bringing that series back, I don't know anyone who was a teen in 93-94 who didn't watch the show every night. He ended it because he was wanting to concentrate more on King Of The Hill at the time.

I'm glad to see artists from my era still being able to win awards and doing well enough to kick today's artists butt. It's great seeing artists from that era like Green Day, Weezer, Nine Inch Nails and others scoring well these days. well, the Viewers Choice award never really seems to be about video quality, but how many fanatical teenybopper fans the artist has. Backstreet Boys won the award several times for videos that weren't really that visually exciting, but the 12 year old girls were just obsessed with them in 98 and 99 that they didn't care that I Want It That Way wasn't a good "video", as long as they let Nick Carter know they thought he was cute, lol.

even though I was a huge Green Day fan in my teens and it's sweet to see them so big a decade later, I have to concur they were never among the best video artists.

I always thought Weezer (another band that broke big in 94 and is still around) and Nine Inch Nails were both far superior video acts. Weezer's videos being lighter and sometimes with a heavy fondness for their childhood pop culture (like Buddy Holly and Go Fishing) and NIN videos were more disturbing. But on average, they always made great videos. The only "great" video I remember from Green Day was Minority.

Agreed about the Britney performing again. Im surprised BSB didnt perform or anything since they just came back with a bang and all [though theyre still touring]. I havent watched it yet, but I know I probably have a good 30 chances to this week. I only wanted to see Kelly perform, but from what Ive been hearing, its not so good -__-

What the hell is the big deal with Eva???? She is treated like she is some goddess or something. She is no better than anybody else. Can't wait for her star to burn out. My fave memory of them was when Madonna performed, the really good rock bands (not hair bands) like Metallica, etc. It just seems to me now it has gone down hill. It is sooooo bad. No, that's not what I said. You interpreted wrong. I don't think she is a good actress. PERIOD. She could be ugly, but her acting skills wouldn't change. When I say I like real actresses, I mean those that do know how to act, regardless of their looks. Those with depth and perception and who take their craft seriously.
