View Full Version : Harry and Hurricane Katrina
nitcrt1 08-28-2005, 08:32 AM After hearing that Hurricane Katrina was a category five hurricane headed for Louisanna and the city of New Orleans, I couldn't help but think of Harry. Let's hope he gets out in time and that his businesses are spared. It doesn't look good, so keep him in your thoughts.

Speaking of disasters....how many disasters hit the Night Court building while the show ran? I seem to remember a hurricane, blizzard, inferno, and maybe an earthquake. The floor that the court resided on seemed to move from season to season. Sometimes it appeared that the building was 20 stories high and the court was on the top or near-top floor, and other times it appeared to be on the second floor. I remember in one episode the fire forced them all down into the morgue, and even as a kid I remember wondering why, if they could get to the morgue (which was in the basement) why couldn't they just walk out the front door.
Continuity wasn't a big issue with this show, and that's okay, because it's so zany. But I remember early on Harry talking of memories of his dad and how his dad was dead. Then years later they brought on John Astin and had him play Harry's father. Same thing happened on Cheers. Early on in the series Frasier remarked about how much he disliked his father and was glad the old man was dead. Then, magically, when his character got his own show, dear old dad was resurrected.
Sparkygirl 08-28-2005, 04:07 PM As I recall, Harry thought of the man his mother was married to as his father, so, maybe Harry was talking about him when he was saying his father was dead, he didn't meet his real father until he was in his twenties, at the courthouse.
Just a thought. :happyface
ekkostar 08-28-2005, 06:24 PM Thanks.
Nice to know that I wasn't the only one thinking of this today.
MaydayMalonesGirl 08-28-2005, 08:24 PM This also crossed my mind. The other night I was reading about his store in New Orleans. Hopefully he's out of there by now.
McFly121 08-29-2005, 12:29 AM It was explained---rather confusingly---in "From Snoop to Nuts" that Buddy got Harry's mom pregnant in the wacko ward. Apparently she got out before Buddy while preggo (I guess) and met Harry, Sr. They married real quick and named her new kid Harry? I think....the way Buddy tells it to Harry is pretty vague.
Yeah, I thought this was a referance to the Hurricane Mel episode LOL. Where that storm jumpstarts a bunch of preggo defendants into labor :).
Though the morgue was in the basement, I believe they were surrounded by fire on the outside and decided to hole up in there. When the fire dept. breaks through you see smoke and they're told it's under control. True about all the disaters hahha, only one they didn't have was a flood or nuclear meltdown :).

Actually, they did have an episode where the entire courtroom was quarantined. Something to do with a deadly virus or radioactive waste.
There were numerous bomb threats, if I remember correctly, in the series. Another great moment recalled: one of Dan's high school victim's tracks him down and handcuffs a briefcase filled with dynamite to his arm. Dan's stalker turns around and tells the entire courtroom that if anyone moves, Dan will be blown to bits. Everyone in the court looks at each other, then runs.
megamanj2004 08-30-2005, 01:40 PM I hope he's alright, seeing as how he's from new Orleans and all. :(
Brian Damage 08-30-2005, 08:18 PM My best to Harry and everybody in New Orleans.
Catalyna 09-02-2005, 09:58 PM Just read that Harry and his family were evacuated August 31. They are now staying with family in Louisiana.
Prayers for everyone else still there and along the gulf coast.
TripperFan 09-02-2005, 10:37 PM Great to hear he and his family are safe. As I recall, his magic store is in the French Quarter, so hopefully it's o.k. as well. Not sure if he lived in that area also or not.
ekkostar 09-03-2005, 12:52 PM That's great. It's nice to know that he's still alive!
I was worried too. It's good to know he got out.
McFly121 09-03-2005, 09:52 PM Yes, good to hear Harry left town in time, but I'm sure the store is gone.
And wasn't John Larroquette from that part of the country? Dan's backstory was based on Larroquette's life from what I remember.
nitcrt1 09-04-2005, 02:09 PM I was just sent an e-mail from the moderator of the One And Only Harry Anderson Fan site. Harry has sent her an e-mail letting her know they are okay and are in Texas. He has told her he will report back to her when he can.
I know it will be tough for him and others who had businesses and homes in that area. Who knows when they will be able to return. All we can do is keep everyone in our prayers and help out in any way we can.

Lyrics By J. Miller james@youthandviolence.com
Written For & Dedicated to Victims of Katrina 2005
Water all around
Looking for higher ground
Sons without mothers
Sisters without brothers
Were did they all go?
Maybe they will never know
*Chorus
We must band together
And show them we care
After the waters are gone
We will be there
Till the sick have been cured
From the tragedy they’ve endured
We will be there
People are looting
While others are shooting
Just help my dying mother
I’ve already lost my brother
Where did everyone go?
Maybe we will never know
*Chorus
We must band together
And show them we care
After the waters are gone
We will be there
Till the sick have been cured
From the tragedy they’ve endured
We will be there
We need your help
We need your love
We need our faith in god above
Can you hear us?
Give us a sign
Tell the children they will be fine
*Chorus
We must band together
And show them we care
After the waters are gone
We will be there
Till the sick have been cured
From the tragedy they’ve endured
We will be there
We look for help
There is none in sight
As night turns to day
And day into night
Someone must know that this isn’t right
We will continue to fight
*Chorus
We must band together
And show them we care
After the waters are gone
We will be there
Till the sick have been cured
From the tragedy they’ve endured
We will be there
*Chorus
We must band together
And show them we care
After the waters are gone
We will be there
Till the sick have been cured
From the tragedy they’ve endured
We will be there

On Frasier, when Sam came to visit he said "you said your dad was dead", and Frasier gave an explaination, but I can't remember what it was.

Frasier said that they had an argument, that Martin had called him a stuffed shirt and hung up on him and Frasier was mad.
hughpuppies 09-28-2005, 03:29 AM Glad to hear Harry's family got out okay. Sorry to all the ones who lost a loved one.
The episode where a classmate of Dan's that comes back to blow him up was someone Dan teased and called him Stinky. They find out Dan's real name is Reinhold.
What about the guy who refused to take off the Mask when he used to play a character who wore a mask and ran into the dinning room and was going to drop something on himself if he cut the rope.(Wonder how the guy did all that that fast?)
What about all the times someone wanted to kill themselves. Bull when he thought he was a monster, Roz when she found out she was a diabetic and went up to the roof and was going to jump. Dan when he found out Phil was rich and his brother Will took all the money and Dan was blamed.
Seemed like almost every episode someone was going to kill themselves or someone else or a natural disaster struck.
