One of the characters who went into sitcom limbo was Good Times' Carl, who appeared in a few fourth season episodes, married Florida and vanished with her to either Arizona or Florida(?) for his "health."

When Florida returns in the sixth season, someone asks her how Carl is, she responds "He's good" and that's the last we ever hear about him.

Now, what happened to the poor guy?? Is he still sitting by the phone waiting for Florida to call him?? Did she just forget about him??

So, keeping in mind forgotten and abandoned characters like Happy Days' Chuck Cunningham, present your "What happened to Carl" theories here...if you dare. :D

Well Carl supposedly died that's why Florida stayed after Thelma got married. Remember Carl had lung cancer, that was the reason she moved to AZ

That was always my theory of what happened. Damn Flo lost two husbands within a few years of each other. ;)

I always thought it was assumed that Carl had passed away before Florida returned home since it was established he was ill from season 4.

He decided to take in an outcast named Chuck Cunningham and a runaway dog named "Tiger" and Florida was allergic to dogs. I wish they would have checked the powder on the dog before she came running back to Chicago.

I can't believe The Carl character was actually going to be brought back and it was going to be said that he was in a hospital outside Chicago. I'm glad they changed their mind-lol

And also that pregnant friend of Florida's who wanted to give up her baby, she ended up with that crowd too. Now George, what are the odds of that happening????? :D

Seeing that she wasn't a main character I can see why, they had more important things to worry about lol.

Nope. Read the first post again. She was asked how Carl was and said "he's good" or something like that. Then, no mention of him in any way, shape or form.

I personally think Carl died giving that he had lung cancer. I guess it was no need to go into that since he was not an important part of the show.

He may not have been a regular before, but he married the leading actress' character. To not mention his supposed death is just as bad when James was killed off. Rarely was his death mentioned. When James' father came to visit the family sometime after his son's death, he barely uttered anything abt his son, the same thing with Florida. The writers were wrong in both cases.

How about Melvin from Sanford and Son?

That's true, I always liked Melvin. The actor who played him, Slappy White, was an old friend of Redd Foxx.
