LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Fran Drescher's "Nanny" character is getting an extreme makeover in Indonesia, where a local version of the sitcom, called "Neny," is in the works.

All the main characters will be cast locally, and the show will be shot in the language of Indonesia, Bahasi.

Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI), which owns the rights to the project, has produced local versions of "The Nanny" in Greece, Turkey, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador. A version also is under way in Mexico.

"This is truly a localized show down to the jokes, so it's not translated directly from the original script. But if you are familiar with 'The Nanny' and you happen to be watching the Indonesian television, it will unmistakably be 'The Nanny,"' said Todd Miller, SPTI's senior vp and managing director Asia.

The studio is also looking to produce Asian versions of such American classics as "Who's the Boss?" "The Jeffersons" and "Married ... With Children."

Thats interesting because while I was up late one night last week I came across a spanish version of the Nanny, and it was just like the American version, only it was in Spanish! I liked it but still, it wasn't the Nanny cast so it could take abit of getting used to ;)

Not as good as The Nanny, but it is still funny. I guess its something that grows on you. I cant get used to the short-haired nanny.
