Now that many of us have had a chance to watch the first two seasons of Moonlighting on the top quality DVDs, which episodes are your favorites from the DVD set? These are mine today (my favorites do change often):

1. Dream Sequence - I watch this episode repeatedly, many times listening to the commentaries. Top quality all the way.

2. My Fair David - I watch this one almost as much as Dream Sequence, plus BW does the commentary. Since the DVDs came out, this episode has jumped into my top 10 of all of the ML episodes.

3. Every Daughter's Father Is A Virgin - the door scene when David tells Maddie about her father is terrific -- Plus Cy does the commentary with Glenn. Her parents were perfectly cast.

4. Witness For The Execution - I have always loved it. It's worth it just for the garage scene alone.

5. The Next Murder You Hear - Cybill was great in this episode. I loved the scene when she is talking to the DJ in his apartment.

6. Next Stop Murder - the jokes STILL make me laugh every time I watch it. That's 20 years of hearing the same jokes and enjoying them just as much now as then.

7. Money Talks, Maddie Walks -- "Buenos Aires? Isn't that near Buenos Noches?" (or something to that effect) -- "It is down there, isn't it?" "I think it's over." (or something to that effect) Great lines, great chemistry, great outfits.

8. Brother, Can You Spare A Blonde? - Charles Rockett was terrific as David's brother. The smoldering jealousy, plus the mall did have it all.

9. Portrait of Maddie - I have always liked this episode. Maybe it's because I can understand how men can look at Cybill from afar and be attracted to her. "Most drop dead gorgeous broad I'd ever seen in my real life."

10. The Moonlighting Pilot - after watching it hundreds of times (or is that thousands  ) since it's debut, it never gets old to me. I love it just as much now as in 1985. Of course, most of the time, I do fast forward thru the scenes that do not include Maddie and/or David.

Now for a shocking confession:

There are episodes that I have not watched at all - some of these episodes have not been seen by my Moonlighting obsessed eyes in many, many years.

I cannot get into the following episodes:

Somewhere Under The Rainbow
North By North DiPesto
Atlas Belched
Knowing Her (shocker???)
The Murder's In The Mail

I know why I don't like Knowing Her -- it's because I considered Gillian a threat to Maddie and David's relationship. I didn't like it when David showed an interest in other women, but I didn't get as upset when Maddie did. Comments?

Hi Kismet. I would recommend watching The Murder's in the Mail if you haven't watched it. There are parts that I fast forward but the Maddie and David scenes are great. Also has a hilarious ending where they're looking for the guy with a mole on his nose. North by North I can't really get into either, but the beginning scene with Maddie and David is great and you learn what UMS means. Atlas Belched has a sweet moment between Maddie and David when she asks him to hire her but again there are parts of this one that I fast forward. Okay now to my favs not in any particular order:
1. Dream Sequence-one of my all time favorites. Great commentary
2. Witness for the Execution-great acting by Bruce and steamy kiss.
3. Pilot-love seeing how these 2 met though I also fast forward through the long scenes without them. Great commentary.
4. Every Daughter's Father-great acting by Cybil. Great commentary.
5. Brother Can You Spare a Blonde-David jealous moments and has such a sweet ending.
6. My Fair David-David is absolutely hilarious in this one, great jokes.
7. In God We Strongly Suspect
8. Twas the Episode Before Christmas
9. Next Stop Murder- I fast forward through a lot of this one but there are some great jokes that get me rolling every time.
10. Money Talks Maddie Walks
Wow I could mention more I think but I feel like I have written a book here :D
I guess the only ones I don't watch a lot are Camille, North by North, Gunfight-though there still are some nice moments in those.

Ok Kismet -- Am going to advocate for your missing eps-- do give them a whirl (as you'll need them to fill in some of the less steller season 5 stuff when they come out on DVD ). Here's some things in them to look forward too:

Somewhere Under The Rainbow: There is a great M&D dialog in the beginning (pre-client) about art, capped with a fabulous Maddie line, "That man belongs in a pound." Ms. D responds, "A pound of what?" This STILL cracks me up, and I only wish I had occaision to use it somewhere in life. Aside from that, there are several other funny things, and some nice M&D stuff throughout -- and one of the strangest chase scenes, ever.

North By North DiPesto: I agree on this being sort of hard to get through -- but try at least once for ol Ms. D. its not that its bad --it just not M&D. At the very least, check out all their scenes; particularly where Maddie gives Agnes a makeover, which is quite sweet.

Atlas Belched: There are some good D&M things in here, but mainly tiny moments. best is the one angie brings up.

Knowing Her: Maddie is jealous. There is awesome fodder for argument here. And what's better, she turns out on top in the end. Plus, another greatly odd chase scene.

The Murder's In The Mail: this is just banter genius. There's the camp kennybrook, the mole on the nose, the bill collecting, the undercover maid outfit, and pies in the face. Must try it out.

I don't know why I don't like some of the episodes. I have seen all of them before -- it's just that some of the episodes leave me uninterested.

Knowing Her - I definitely know why I don't like it. I like Dana Delany - I just didn't want her anywhere near David Addison  . Do you think I need help? Only Maddie was allowed to be with David.

The other episodes???? I am going to give them a look-see this weekend.
Except for Somewhere Under The Rainbow - I didn't like it 19 years ago, and I still won't like it. I just know it.

Hi Kis

I remember when I first saw Under The Rainbow, I didn't like it much either. I couldn't get over that stupid Irish accent. But I'm starting to block that out now and enjoy the episode a bit more. There are some really good David/Maddie moments in it and they're almost parental when it comes to the leprechaun. It's quite sweet.

Knowing Her is ok. I really can't stand Gillian either. But it has one of my favourite lines where Maddie tells David 'a gnat with a lobotomy could fool you!'

You should give Murders in the Mail a go though. It isn't one of my favourites as I've always found the plot rather fragmented, but it has a lot of really wonderful individual scenes. I'm with you on Atlas Belched and North By North Dipesto. I can't really get into those either.

Love Gem

Dream Sequence is definitely my favourite. I hadn't seen until the DVDs but now I have watched it several times, brilliant stuff.

I find it hard to rank the rest, I love almost all Moonlighting

Tamm - I agree that there are scenes in EVERY Moonlighting episode that I like. I know it's hard to pick favorites. It's just that it seems that I have been drawn to the same episodes over and over this summer.

AND it surprised me that after 3 months of owning the DVDs, that there are still some episodes that I haven't watched at all.

I did watch The Murder's In The Mail last night (plus the Pilot again!!!). I did enjoy it.

Today, I'm going to watch Atlas Belched, plus Knowing Her (although I may fast forward thru some of the Gillian scenes  ). The scene in the hotel room is one of my favorites - plus Cybill in outside lighting at the cemetary just blows me away with her beauty.

Hello all,

My favorites are:

1.) Witness for the Execution

2.) Brother, Can You Spare a Blonde?

3.) Dream Sequence

4.) In God we strongly Suspect

5.) Money Talks, Maddie Walks

6.) Every Daughter's Father is a Virgin

7.) The Pilot

8.) Knowing Her (love the opening scene and the chase...oh and it crackes me up when Maddie says, "David Addison, you are an idiot!)

9.) The Murder's in the Mail (again, love the chase scene..."punch this cow, will ya?", also the part when david hurts his hand, and the end is classic)

10.) The Next Murder You Hear/Read the Mind...See the Movie (I like certain scenes from each ep...boink from Murder,David singing Respect and when he calls Maddie Scarlett Pimpernel and then the pool scene and Papa Bear from Movie)

I'm sure "Twas the Episode Before Christmas" will be on there, but I'm saving that one for the holidays :) That's the only one I haven't watched yet. And it's been years since I've seen it.

The episode that I really don't like at all, is Camille. Plus North by North Dipesto for obvious reasons, but it wasn't as bad as I remebered. You just have to look at it as a different show because maddie and david are pretty much mia :(

Dying for season 3 to come out,

Kara

My favourites, in no particular order, are:
1. The Next Murder You Hear. I just love the dj's voice and can understand Maddie's fascination with him.

2. Brother, Can You Spare a Blonde. For many reasons, the main one being The look of heartbreak on David's face when Richard and Maddie are dancing. Goosebump moment!

3. MoneyTalks - Maddie Walks. The entrance David makes.

4. The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice. Need I say more?

5. My Fair David. The limbo scene.

6. Knowing her. Sorry, Kismet, but I love most of this episode, mainly because Maddie feels she has to watch out for David.

7. Portrait of Maddie.

8. The Bride Of Tupperman. Because it highlights their different attitudes to life and love.

9. Every Daughter's father is a Virgin. Have to go with Kismet here. The door scene is just electric.

10. Witness for the Execution. Besides the obvious reason, I felt Bruce Willis's acting was superb here.

I have to admit that I don't really mind North by North Dipesto. Agnes deserved her own episode.

By the way, has anyone discovered why the packaging has a picture from Big Man on it, instead of something from the first 2 seasons? Not that I mind - it is a gorgeous picture.

Oh the door scene is great. I also love Cybil's acting in this one. The last scene with her father in the hotel always makes me teary eyed.

The same thing happened on the original Pilot DVD. They had pics on that one that did not come from the Pilot. Also, when Maddie was hanging from the clock, it looked like she was wearing a man's sweater.

I wondered about the big man pic too -- as well as the last disc having a 5th season promo shot. Strange. And, there's a glitch on one of the cds -- there is a photo from the bar scene of dream sequence as a photo still from an ep it doesn't match (I can't remember off hand which one).

I've only noticed these silly things b/c I've been hunting for eggs -- particularly since they'd promised us gag reels in the promos for the dvd set. LIARS!!! ARGH. and no eggs. Unless one of you all has found one.... if so then :talk: do tell.

As for eps, I've narrowed down my top 10:

1) Money talks, Maddie walks: this is the only episode I can think of that focuses on an extended M&D date of sorts; at the very least it is the two of them enjoying each others company, and its the only time I can think of an episode that does that for longer than a bumper, or as a joke set up. Plus, they look gorgeous, he tries to kiss her, and they have great banter. GOOD STUFF.
2) Dream Sequence: Cybill as Maddie as Rita when she looks up from the piano at Zach walking in in Davids dream -- she is my yoda.
3) Bride of Tupperman: I know its unconventional fav, but this is my first ever original taped episode from the 80s, as we didn't get a vcr until that point in the second season. Still a fond one for me for that reason. Oh, and the fabulous use of Stevie Wonder (btw: was watching Major League the other night, and "Stevie" is in that -- as one of the dinner party guests at Lynns house). Speaking of ML guest refugees....
4) The Next Murder you hear: ah, the blonde dude from the Mel Gibson movie (Payback?) whatever he does he'll always be Paul. Love the voice, love the heart story, LOVE the boinking fight.
5) Every Daughters Father: David loves her, and we'll leave it at that. Not every guy would spy on your dad.
6) Read the Mind, See the movie: simply b/c of that steak out -- maddie chewing gum and looking at him with that "duh" face -- BRILLIANT.
7) Portrait of Maddie: Get aclue.
8) Next Stop, Murder: Bed in wall -- classic. Plus, david's jealous. :)
9) Lady In Iron Mask: B/c I, too, love driving through Mars. BUT DAMN them for replacing the original william tell music -- which MADE that chase. What, they couldn't get rights to a (what I think is) a public domain tune? That one should have been paid for.
10) In God we Strongly Suspect: S'allright.

Those are my contributions.

Duh, I forget to put this one on my list. Also, a great episode. And I agree, the use of "I was Made to Love Her," was fabulous. Good call, Lisa. Oh, and I also like the part on the plane, when David kisses her hand :)
