I dont think they ever mentioned it.I cant remember one episode but always remembered they never gave his last name. They even called his mom "Charles' mom" not Mrs.Whatever His Last Name Was.

Nope,Charles never did have a last name.I was reading the books (the 1st one) and Buddy almost said it,but the writer made Charles cut him off. The whole time I was reading it,I was thinking:"Say it...come on..say his last name....."

When the kids met Lilian they said nice to meet you Mrs. and she would cut them off and say call me Aunt Lilian. People would just refer to him as Charles. No last name.

I wonder why they never said what his last name was.

Pretty much just a running gag...
Did they ever say the last name of the family in Malcolm In The Middle?

Nope, even though the last name of Malcolm and his family is actually Wilkerson, even though I haven't seen an episode where they mentioned their last name on the air.

It was sort of a fad in the 80's to have characters who only went by one name. Charles was but one of many. There was also MacGyver.

Actully,it turned out,in like, the last episode of MacGyver, that his first name was Angus, and he's last name was MacGyver. So Angus MacGyver.
