Norman lear discovered a article in a Ebony magazine in 1976 that had Amos talking about everything that was going on behind the scenes. Lear was furious and fired him.

Esther Rolle also did an interview with the same magazine, saying just about the same thing that John did with Ebony magazine and the yr after John left the show Esther did also. But she returned during the last season.

I didn't say that was the cover with John's interview in it. Esther also did an interview with Ebony where she was talking about Jimmie character.

Notice John Amos' hair is alot more receding on this photo cover than it appears on the show? I wonder if they added a little piece to his hair? I think he looks way more better with his hairpiece(?) then without it.

I know when he wore the hairpiece as Gordy on the MTM show he looked better.

Amos may have had some valid concerns, but because he broadcast them publicly, he was fired.

Apparently, James' constant anger towards his son wasn't all acting...

John Amos was already an established actor was he defintely was jealous of Jimmie Walker

I don't know if alot of you read that quote I posted from John Amos. He had alot to say abt that situation but I specifically like the part where he said (please remember, these are John's words, not mine, so don't no one go off abt being racist, etc.) John said words to the effect of "I would rather be on Roots saying 'Toby be a good n****r' than have to say 'John be a good n****r". I hope you all find that thread and read what he said.
John, I believe was chosen to play on Roots before he was actually fired.

I seriously doubt that John was jealous of Jimmie. If you notice all the work that John has done since Good Times I don't think had anything to be jealous about. John was also doing Roots at the time that he left Good Times, so that took some of the anger from leaving Good Times away, I would think.

It was the fact that Jimmie character was way too out there and all over the place. The way that they had his character act sometimes was uncalled for. It was just time for his character to grow up and become a man. And that didn't happen until season 4 when John's character was killed off.

Esther Rolle also stated that she didn't care too much for Jimmie's character JJ, so I doubt that it was jealousy.
