Some days I wish I was on 56k because my broadband cable box has been going out on me lately. I need a new box.

I'm still on 56k. BTW, my computer is down. I've tried several times to reboot it from the satrtup disk, but it won't go. The message I get is that a subfolder from the I/O is missing, or the computer has run out of sufficient memory (I think it's the latter, however). How do I deal with this? I can't get on to at least exit the antivirus program!

I still use my 56k dialup connection at home. At the moment, I am using high speed internet at work. However, I'll be switching to cable internet at home on the 6th of September when I move into my new apartment.

home - dialup
school - high speed

i think i rather prefer my 56k here than i would having cable. it seems to go out for days for some people.

We cant get high speed up here because we're in the middle of nowhere. Me and my Dad are hoping theyll carry it soon somewhere down the line.

We get Qwest up here as well but the majority of our cable services are done through Midcontinent -- I believe Midco is available only in the Dakotas. Possibly Minnesota too, but I'm not sure. I actually like Midco -- @Home used to offer broadband internet services here and my dad had @Home when he first went broadband in early 2001. @Home has since long gone bankrupt (appx. early 2002) and the people who were @Home customers were switched over to Midcontinent.

This is kind of for Jeff - I actually get a stable connection with my provider -- it's just that my cable box has been REALLY acting up lately. We had a guy come here the other day but nobody was home so he left a note on the doorknob saying he tested our connection outside our house and everything appeared to be in great shape. When you have broadband internet at home, they give you a small external box that you have to hook up to your computer- a cable runs from the wall and into the box, then you have another cord (either an USB or ethernet cord) running from the box to your CPU that receives the signals, thus keeping you connected. When I'm not having problems with my box, I lose my connection maybe once a month for about 20ish minutes or so.

I remember hearing about @Home. We now have Mediacom as our only cable provider, and I hate Mediacom. Their commercials are enough to make you pull your cable out of the wall.

I don't have high-speed internet. I don't really need to say anything about dial-up.
