View Full Version : Would anyone have been interested in J.J doing standup comedy on stage in the
TVFactFan 08-23-2005, 12:15 PM episode-"Rent Party"? Micahel was singing and dancing, Flo, Willona and Thelma did the Supremes, Bookman did the Voice impressions, so i guess it wouldn;t have been anything else left for J.J to do but stand up comedy. It's a shame he was not in this ep, we would have gotten to see J.J do his thing-lol

Its been so long since I have seen this episode, I didn't realize that he was not in this episode. Anyway we got to see him do his stand up every time he gave his lines. To me he was doing his act, because he was a rotten actor. ;)

Yeah the explanation for his absence was that he had to go to St. Louis for a Art show.
nerrad 08-23-2005, 12:28 PM Now where di he get money for St. Louis, LOL. Anyway, yeah JJ would've stolen it if he performed. To me Bookman did. And James didn't even want him there.

I guess he saved it up from the chicken shack-lol
nerrad 08-23-2005, 01:03 PM Funny how JJ never traveled anywhere during the early years. Now all of a sudden, he goes to St. Louis of all places. I bet the audience was thinking the same thing. Maybe he did save some from the chicken shack. :p

When Michael missed a ep, they didn;t give an explanation, I guess they figured we were supposed to assume he was outside playing-lol
Brian Damage 08-23-2005, 03:32 PM It was a disgrace how the writers couldn't keep the actors from staying on the show for its entire run.
Vince 887 08-23-2005, 03:43 PM John Amos' last taped episode and no Jimmy hmmm ....I remember they did a similiar type of entertainment show during the last season that included JJ.

Well at the time, he didn;t know that would be Amos last taped episode

...or protesting about how Whitey is holding him back...LOL
TVFactFan 08-23-2005, 04:18 PM In syndication, you never hear where J.J was, you just didn;t see him.
Brieannas21 08-23-2005, 04:34 PM I think, if JJ would have been in that episode and did some stand up then his material would have been corny. I don't think it would have been as corny if Jimmie were to use his own material. By that time they mainly had an all white writing staff. You can see by the material JJ was giving Tyrone in The Comedian and the Loan Sharks
Jinxey 08-25-2005, 02:24 AM For some weird reason the jokes were so corney you had to laugh.....lol
Ireneparalegal 08-25-2005, 03:22 AM Remember that episode (forgot the title) JJ was excited abt discovering a new comedic talent and the guy had terrible stage fright. So JJ had to cover for him at the club and JJ ended up being scared? JJ had to remind that guy abt his own jokes. He mentions how that guy keeps the workers laughing at the job.

Yeah that's the episode that I was talking about in my post above it's The Comedian and the Loan Sharks
Brian Damage 08-28-2005, 09:33 PM I liked Michael's singing and dancing in this episode. He got down!
TVFactFan 08-28-2005, 11:35 PM I'm just glad Ralph Carter didn't do that dance on Soul Train in 1975-lol

i loved his singing and dancing. you could see Florida/Esther really happy when he did his thing. she may not have been his real mother, but you could see she was proud of him when he did.
