I thought it was in the EARLY seasons of the show, but after checking out the 1st 3 sets, haven't found it...

There's an episode where Marie says something like "This is why we can't have nice things"...

that line STILL makes us laugh in THIS house and any light anyone can shed on episode title and season would be MOST APPRECIATED!!!

i believe the episode you're talking about is in season 5 and is called The Author. ray and robert get into a fight after Ray's book idea gets squashed and robert gets promoted to lieutenant. they fight and break one of marie's lamps.
